Canoe Duck Blind

Have any of you built a blind to a canoe before? I hunt waterfowl on some bony rivers where a canoe is the best vessel for access, so far the strategy has been to hide the canoe in the grass but I'd like to do something a bit better. Thinking of attempting to build some sort of scissor blind but wanted to hear other ideas.

I used to have a Kara-hummer style 12' boat with a 6.5 longtail. It would run any river I wanted, big or small. And using 1'X1' bird netting it was very easy to camo out. I bought everything for $1200 used.

I retrofitted/modified one on my old layout blinds. Cut the floor out, attached a couple hard points for the support and it has worked like a charm. Takes about 5 minutes to set up/tear down. I used some marsh grass from Cabelas to brush it in ( dyed it to match my local marsh ). I fold the blind, lay it on the canoe floor and load up my decoys on top. Pup rides and hunts from the back.

I use an Old Town discover solo sport canoe but this could be easily done with a larger canoe. Just need some pre-brushed light camo net to fill in the larger gaps. This setup lets me effectively hunt tidal estuary's where there I have to move frequently to chase falling tides and little cover and too much water for a traditional layout.

Can tie off to a log for support or I use 4x 3' wood dowels I drive into the mud "like spuds" and tie off to with bungy.

This is great! What did you do for the hard points for support?

I put the blinds headrest bar into the rod holders ( the ones infront of the dog). For the front, attached a pair of 1/2 inch pipe clamps to the gunnels up just behind the front cross brace. I made a up shaped cross bar from thin walled emt that drops into the fwd ones and acts as the gun rest. Then I removed and installed the door loops that came on the factory blinds gun rest. Took a bit of screwing around to get everything in the right position, but now it's money!!!!
