Singer 241-2
Hello glad to find this forum. I just bought a 241-2 from an estate sale. Need to know any information anyone has on this machine. Will this machine do good on leather. I am going to try to use it also on leather uphostery in automobile. Are parts hard to find for it since it is so old? It has a ...leatherworker.net
+1Good link for trying to ID old singers: https://www.sandman-collectibles.com/id-singer-machines.htm#40
If the motor works well and the machine's timing is good, then yes. Your pics aren't the greatest to look closely at the machine, just because the seller says its an Industrial machine doesn't make it true.
I talked the dude down to 150. I couldnt find a thompson mini. Im going to try to get used to it but if i cant ill buy a servo. You would need to buy a servo motor for the machine to slow it down enough to be manageable. Figure another $100-150 for that. Personally, I would pass up on this machine and wait for a different one to pop up. For the $350 you will put into this one, you should be able to pick up a Thompson Mini clone for not much more which would probably serve you better as well as being more portable.
Thank youAt $150, that's starting to look better. If you are able to use it well with the clutch motor then it might work for you. If you believe that you could sell this in the future for $150 then you really have no worries.
The Thompson Mini is no longer in production but there are several clones out there. The Sailrite LS-1 is the best clone available and the Consew CP206 is another good one. Then there are the machines like the Reliable Barracuda that you can buy on Amazon that are mediocre quality. These are a portable walking-foot zig-zag sewing machine, so an intermediate step between a home machine and a full-on industrial machine.
