Okay so first question am I correct that to even just buy bonus points in Arizona I need to buy a license?

If so, could I use the same license to buy points 2 years in a row since it’s a 365 day license? Is there any strategy to the timing on this or does it not matter since it’s just a bonus point?

I’m learning that many of the western states have complicated/confusing systems.

Yes you must buy a license. But if you are not drawn you can get a refund.
Check your draw dates and buy your license accordingly for 2yrs of availability
Call AZGF dept. @ 602 942 3000 they will verify hunt times and dates.
Or AZGF.Gov. Good luck Zcat.

Yes you must buy a licence. You will not receive a refund if you dont draw.

The license can work for two years if you purchase if on the day before the application closing. However that will only be good for elk and lopes the second year as you have to have a valid licence when the draw closes. So if you applying across the board you will miss out on sheep, Deer, bison ect the second year.

I just purchase a license yearly as I apply across the board.

Unless they changed the state law I cant see how its possible. Did the person tell you that law or rule has been changed? I been applying to Az for years and never received any refunds.

Here is the link to the law. Go to section E

Thanks for the info.
Yeah from my interpretation you don’t get a refund. Maybe I’ll just call tomorrow and ask.

As already stated yes, you must purchase a license even for points only. In Az the 365 license does not really help because the draws are split as already stated.

question: I purchased a 2019 OTC deer archery tag.

can I still apply for 2019 rifle deer draw permits?
just wanted to make sure, purchased this tag several years now.

Yes, but you can only shoot one deer per calendar year.

I think the trick to assessing any of these states draw hunts is knowing how many guys you have in front of you...and how many tags they give out. There are other ins and outs...but that is the bigge.

So for example if you are following the "Just Apply" mantra and you want a sheep tag in a unit that only gives out 1 non res permit a year....the 1,800 guys in front of you are going to insure you never draw in your lifetime..or at least will insure that you have Lotto type odds of drawing.

If on the other hand you are applying for a unit that gives out 25 tags a year...and there are a few hundred applicants...you will eventually draw.

Its probably worth chunking down the dough for one of the services that break down the odds in all of the states so you can make an educated decision on where best to spend your application $$.

Take a look at these; Hunters Trailhead, Huntin fool, Epic, Eastmans[ partial]

i Thought about doing one of those for at least a year but I’ve discovered that with a little digging and excel spreadsheets I can figure most of the draws out. Also for the cost of a subscription I can apply in Arizona.

New to Az draw and looking for someone to clarify acquiring a bonus point. Just got notice that I did not draw elk tag. Portal say AWW did not grant bonus point. I thought failure to draw resulted in a bonus point for next year's draw. Does this appear later or did i not complete app process properly? Do I have to buy separately if point will not be provided in elk draw and if so can this be now now? Thank you in advance for the information.

Points take longer to update in the system.

AZ Game and Fish have NEVER been on the cutting edge of technology. BP will eventually show up.

Today is only March 10th. The portal accounts were only updated on March 8th. So, in relation to your accrued points status page, that's going to take about a week to be updated. This coming Friday should reveal your current number of points. Points status updates usually appear about the same time that the leftover tag list is published. The leftover tag list is scheduled to be published late this next week, or the first of the following week (March 15th to March 18th).

Your $15 application fee covers the point fee and ensures a "valid" application.

Set your license to have a start date on the last day of the app period to span 2 years for Elk/Antelope.
Thank you for the information. I really appreciate your quick response.
