I'm completely lost on the concept, i don't understand it, the marketing and sales r unreal, it's a money making goldmine yet does nothing to help hunting...think all that money realtree has raked in over the decades and the hunts it could have bought or real gear etc. Or just money left in a guys pocket. I'd really like to see people just not waste it and not fatten realtree's wallet so to speak. Watch a wild tv network...never ending stream of crap being marketed and sold...my eyes r burning I say. Burning. On fire. Ouch. It's like the Swarovski thing, ingrained into hunting fabric here for decades as "thee way to go"......man it would be refreshing to see a shift or change. Along with CrztTrekker, these are the best points to be made. The business that is behind many of the hunting brands and such are still doing more for our sport than say the Levis and Pendeltons you would otherwise choose to hunt with. Like CrzyTrekker said, It's capitalism and it's a necessary evil that society is essentially built on. You've gotta pick your battles, that's for sure. If you want to hunt in non-camo gear than more power to you, at least that sends more of message about your sentiments of style. But trying to take on the "Gear Machine" and the capitalism of it all is a loosing battle.

There is always complete primitive style hunting, which might satisfy your burning quandary. That would be a bad ass skill to say you are proficient at. Just expect to see everyone else killing more animals than you...

Carhartt and denim does it for me with a earth tone long sleeved shirt.

Sometimes, when my wife is out of town, I'll dress the kids in camo just to tweak the PETA/Vegan teachers.

I enjoy a wry smile as I imagine the scene with the camo-clad four year old skipping up to Miss Ashley excitedly sharing that dinner is going to be venison heart sandwiches.

Sorry, I'm warped.

But I don't wander around in camo as a general rule.

Agreed! I own two pieces of camo, a coat and a toque, just prefer solid earth tones. However, if a guy wants to wear and hunt in full camo, including socks and underwear, more power to him. No skin off my back...

I live in Idaho, wearing camo in public is fairly common here, in fact you kind of stick out if you don't...LOL

The camo patterns from even the top manufactures seem to be more focused on pleasing the human eye, rather than the animal eye. I would like to see more solid color options specific to different environments and seasons, as well as more deer/elk based solid colors. For non solid colors, I would like to see a bobcat pattern. Many times I have walked to well within ten feet of a bobcat in one of my traps and not seen it til it moved, and this is with me already knowing there is probably a trapped cat there.

I have both solid colors and various camo patterns. In general I like the solids for hunting the prey species and the camo for hunting the predators. Prey species have $hitty vision, predators have good to great vision. Cats, being sight hunters, have the best vision available. This is where it gets interesting. A solid tawny/ yellow colored mountain lion regularly sneaks up close enough to deer and elk to grab them. I think movement and patience is the key here, not color. In fact if you look at all alpha predators they wear loud colors with respect to how we see the world.

My favorite color for hunting is the phantom grey that kuiu produces. It's the closet to the natural color of a fall mule deer or "grey ghost" as we say here in the west. In my human eyes it is a hard color to pick out in a wide variety of terrain types. After all I spend as much as I can afford on optics to be able to see that grey blotch on a hillside, and sometimes they just seem to materialize out of nowhere as I'm walking a trail. As for how ungulates see the world, who really knows, but I know their vision sucks as compared to a predators vision. A grey blotch moving around seems like it would be a natural occurrence, and easily mistaken for another deer if the wind is right. On the other hand when has an interesting looking bush moved from point A to point B

I also like the reptilian pattern that Kryptek is using. How many times, in a wide range of environments, have you almost stepped on a rattlesnake

In the end, I think its movement that really matters. But if an awesome looking camo pattern gives me that little bit of added confidence on my hunt, then I will wear it. If its a solid color that gives me that little bit of added confidence on a hunt then I will wear that too.

WRT hunting, I can tell the difference when I'm not using my facemask and when I am, much less camo. How/where I hunt, camo is an edge at times that can make the difference in packing out game or walking out empty.

Covering face and hands biggest two things...camo not required, grey or tan goodnuff. Our hands and face to animals are like white flags.
