Looking to start self filming some of my hunts as well as my kids. Mainly will be out of a treestand or blind out east. My first thought was to get a camcorder, but some of the cell phones seem to do really well these days. What is everyone's experience with what ends up being a better fit? I'm thinking for close up archery shots from a treestand a phone would be fine, but I may want a camcorder for over the shoulder shots for my kids.

Tried a cheap camcorder. That was a mistake. Going to possibly upgrade to a Pixel 10 pro here shortly for the nicer camera and magsafe capabilities. Figured that would be a better digiscoping setup as well as decent close range archery setup on a camera arm.

Phones won't have the same depth of field or quality when viewed on nice screens, not gadgets...
Dedicated video recording equipment like a camcorder, GoPro etc will give much better results.
Though might depend on your media skills too with what you aim to produce, just watch it raw with the family or edit with cool stuff and anything is possible...

Have you started filming already? Fire away if any questions mate.
Not yet. Still not sure which direction to go. I need a new phone. I normally go for base model Pixels, but thinking about getting a Pixel 10 Pro for the better camera and pixelsnap (magsafe). That would be a better digiscoping setup and also make it easier to have a camera arm in the tree I believe.

I'm a old school geek, not a fan of mobile technology tbo... I've just brought a blackview 9300 rugged phone, Russian design military specs n tough, not a bad camera for a phone but nothing like a real dedicated video recording device. I hate pixel corporate mafia stuff it's about tracking all your movements/activities and I refuse to give these criminals a cent! Steve jobs, sold people mp3 crap but used lp in his house... most the masses love advertising hype
