California Tejon ranch

I wouldn’t think $1600 is worth it for a pig. I paid $500 on a group hunt with eight total hunters. Weather was difficult and only two of us killed hogs, but I saw plenty, they were just hard to get on with the weather. That is about the most I would pay to hunt pigs.

Is there any legitimate guides you guys have been with that is closer to that range? I just thought of Tejon cause I’ve h are a lot of good

Private property pigs are about $800-1000 in most CA locations. There are public land pig drawings around stonyFord a couple times a year along with Lake Sonoma for public land.

Yeah I’ve looked into those drawings as well, just no luck

that simply is bad info. in fact a huge percentage of the ranch is protected in conservation easement. it might be the largest conservation easement ever recorded if I remember correctly. There are sections of the ranch near the freeways that will be developed but this ranch is so damn big most of the hunting/ranching operation is very well protected.
According to the LA Slimes, it is a 19,000 house project. That's about 80,000 new residents assuming 4 people to each house. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.la...h-decision-20181211-story.html?outputType=amp

the ranch is over 270K acres. the subdivision encompasses 30K acres roughly adjacent to interstate 5 and the local communities immediately adjacent to I-5. The remaining 240K (roughly 90%) are protected in easement.

Has anyone been to hogs wild?

Hogs Wild is expensive and high fenced. So if that is acceptable to you, then it’s good. They keep a large number of pigs in the fenced area so you will have plenty of opportunity.

I mean 525 is cheaper then Tejon by almost double

Is it like a petting zoo or an actual hunt

My opinion is that it is high fenced and the pigs are supplementally fed. Take that for what is worth.

I’m just looking for something somewhat authentic that’s not going to break my bank account

If you want guided, and to see at least 100 pigs a day, with guaranteed opportunities try the Jack Ranch.

I don’t mind guides or semi guided I just want an actual hunt with decent opportunity

I looked into this quite a bit when I lived in CA. I had a co-worker who's family owned a ranch and that was the only option I found enticing. Beyond that everything seemed like a "pay to shoot someone's livestock" gig or just way too much $$ for the type of hunt / experience.

When are you wanting to hunt I know of a couple operations there about an hour and a half west of tejon. They have a decent amount of hogs on the ranch year around but it really gets good during the summer when the barley is headed out then there pretty thick in there and eat way better than a nasty old winter time hog I think there in the 750 price range and it’s a Friday Saturday Sunday deal and you get a cabin to stay in and it’s guided..

I was planning sometime around late April - May would be the time I was planning on heading there

Gotch ya the best time on their place is late June through October with the barley it’s around 100,000 acres and there’s plenty of pigs in there just harder to find and kill during the other months. Are you rifle huntin or archery?

I’ll be doing all archery, i mean if that’s the best time to go then I’ll talk to my group and see if they want to wait

Where are you located, and how far are you willing to drive? Lot's of pig hunting available further north in the King City area.

Living in Northern part of the state, I could never justify the cost. I'd probably drive past a dozen quality hunts before I got there. Not worth the drive time or money for me.

I’m down an hour and 30 min past La, so I’m south. About an hour and 20 from San Diego. As far as drive time around 4-5 hours is about what I’d want to drive 6 if it’s cheaper or a better quality hunt
