California is the stupidest state

I was there last year for the first time in a very long time. I was shocked by how expensive stuff was and how big of assholes all the people were. Just rude, condescending, pricks everywhere. Even the waiters were rude. Screw that state.

California is one of those states I will never go to and visit.
Too bad...it's a beautiful state with a lot of cool things to do. Great fishing.

I think it's funny many complain about Californians moving to your XX state...but all of the Ca's that I know who moved are die hard conservatives.

You all do realize what's poisoning the country- it's the universities and the profs' that have never had a real job and think Marxism actually works. Nope, it collapses from its own weight in all but a couple small homogenous societies.

Man I live in the stupidest state in the union. I tried to order my kids all a new pair of hiking boots, being that kids need new ones every year. I get all the sizes situated into my cart, input all my info, press place order…… cannot ship to California because of PFAS chemicals. What a bunch of BS. I swear California is such a joke. I’ve been dealing with this with rain gear already, but now I have to pay an obscene amount of money to get my kids a decent pair of hiking boots that won’t fit next season. I love our stupid liberal politicians in this state. Rant over
I know it will cost a bit more. But, ship to a VERY good friend/relative in another state. Then have them ship to you? After that tell pencil neck schiff where to go.

Know you pain! Try being in the dairy industry here!

I've noticed this also. Since covid there's been a huge shift in attitudes and people on the service industry. I traveled to Chicago and NY occasionally since 2014. My wife and I were shocked at how rude in general people were. I've noticed that in the larger cities here in CA it's just like that. Where I live, people are still very nice and polite. My comment about the service industry, still remains, even where I live. It's a shame. My city has grown lot in my life but it still has a small hometown feel.

I hate the big cities. I try to avoid them.

And now they will want to change your town into what they fled.
That hasn't been my experience, but I only have a group of 20 or so I can think of. I fled Portland and moved here because of the politics. Boise has always been purple, I'm guessing those that liked CA politics moved there. I know some people who have moved here that lean left, have moved back because its not for them.

I was born and raised in So Cal and moved to CO. This is a problem that soon every state with a major city is going to face. Blue cities will be telling red counties how to live. This is the problem across the whole nation. 3-4 major cities dictate the rest of that state. We need a separation of the cities and counties in my opinion, they need to be governed differently.

Welcome to Washington.

Heres a rundown of the proposals in the CA Dem controlled legislature right now;

PROPERTY TAX (9 bills): Democrats have introduced nine separate bills that would increase your property tax in some way – with the worst being a costly property transfer tax that would give state and local government 5% of the value of every home sold – on top of the capital gains tax! Worse, Democrats are working with labor union bosses to put a repeal of Prop 13 on the ballot in 2026. ·

PAYROLL TAX (Newsom Annual Budget): Newsom has included a job-killing hike in the payroll tax – costing struggling small businesses $1 billion more per year in payroll costs. That means fewer jobs in our state. ·[small business is already paying to the fed taxes Newsom defaulted on]

VACANCY TAX (SB 789): After forcing businesses to close with excessive taxes and regulations, Democrats now want to impose a tax on vacant offices and retail stores that used to house all the businesses they destroyed. Talk about adding insult to injury! ·

SOCIAL MEDIA TAX (AB 796): This week Democrats will vote on a bill to impose a tax on the social media platforms you currently get to use for free. Expect that tax to be passed on to users of these platforms. ·

INCOME TAX (AB 1428): California already has the highest income taxes of any state – but this bill would increase it to a whopping 13.8%. ·

MILEAGE TAX (AB 1421): Newsom proposes to track every driver’s mileage and charge them 6-9 cents per mile they drive. That is the equivalent of an 80-cent-per-gallon hike in the gas tax. The typical California driver will be forced to pay $900-1200 a year in higher taxes just to drive on poorly maintained freeways they already paid for with the original gas and sales taxes!

Lots of truth in these posts. However to be fair, CA is one of if not the only state where you can get two truly OTC mule deer tags as a res or non res. That combined with excellent ocean fishing, freshwater fishing, waterfowl hunting, a growing elk herd, elite fall bear hunting (Hopefully spring soon) and large tracts of public land with good access, makes CA an underrated location for hunters and anglers. Gun laws there are obviously ridiculous and terrible
Shhhhh dont tell people that

Yeah they've tried different angles to get Prop 13 repealed. They're going to really hurt the middle class. And likely the middle class will vote for it. Just like when they were going to lower the gas tax. The people wrote titled the bill made it sound like they were lowering gas taxes, people voted for it. Gas taxes were kept the same or increased. I can't remember. I'm just glad I'm outta there.

Dems. have never seen a tax they didn't like.

I think it’s funny, sad at times, but mostly funny. The father in law is so convinced of what he hears on NewsMax about Cali that he won’t even go to the town he grew up in out of fear he will have to shoot someone, or a trany at a checkout will turn him gay. It’s like a made for tv comedy. I don’t care what side someone is on, but it cracks me up using common sense is so easy to talk people out of simply by telling them over and over and over and over to only believe the oligarchs. lol

Carry on.

Turned off the news in 2020, best move I ever made.

Gays think they'll be stoned in red states.

Conservatives think their kids will be raped by a tranny in blue states.

All I know is that they are turning the frogs gay.

For electric vehicles to pay their fair share, moving to a tax on mileage rather than gas usage seems like common sense - it will eventually have to happen. It’s not on top of excise tax, it’s instead of it.

I’d love a huge tax on all social media - the country would be better off because of it. That also seems like common sense.

Vacancy taxes encourage full use of property, which is a very good thing. Unused boarded up buildings drag down a neighborhood - that’s common sense. Part of having a functioning city is managing what’s built, how buildings are used, and how to deal with empty buildings. Myself and friends have different undivided interests in properties that get more divided every generation and nothing can be done without the pie in the sky idea of dozens or hundreds of people agreeing. A client has partial ownership of a vacant warehouse that will sit idle and rundown until the one person keeping up with property taxes passes on and it’s eventually sold on the courthouse steps 30 years from now. A wealthy friend of a client has 26 properties and since he turned into a drunk, has no interest in doing anything with them until the estate sale passes them on to his kids. He probably has 20 years left in him.

I wish our town would have a tax on property transfers to cut down on house flippers and venture capital buying and selling schemes. They suck value out of communities rather than make them better.

There is the Altruistic side, then the harsh realities.

Portland for example has a 60% vacancy rate in office space down town. This is because they let antifa burn the place. Vacancy taxes would crush already struggling property owners.

Capital gains effectively taxes flipping and speculators. If you wanted to punish that realistically, end 1031's. Then the average home owner who moves wouldn't get screwed or the small time investor.

More taxes are rarely the answer, we do a significant amount of business in CA at my work. They are horrible to deal with.

Not really sure how many other places where the stores, Walmart, target, any grocery store or pharmacy have to put personal hygiene products under lock and key to keep the homeless and the thieves in general from stealing it. It's common place in Ca. Now the stores are closing the self checkout lanes because the thieves are stealing so much. Get a job fools.
