It seems like a lot of people are recommending that I keep the 270 WSM (though the .243 will not be sold, just handed down to my son) and either build a good load or find a factory ammo that she likes to run through it. So a little follow up question...I currently have the 300 Win Mag dialed in with a 180 grain bullet. SO, with the 270 should I build a load based on a 130, 140, or a 150 grain? I almost feel like the 150 grain may not be much of a "step down" from the 300 win mag and I might as well just shoot it instead of the 270. I was leaning more towards the 130 or 140 to make it a big enough "step" to justify keeping both guns. What say ye merry gentlemen?

This would make my main 3 gun setup:
Rock River AR15 shooting 55grain
Browning A Bolt 270 WSM shooting ???? grain
Savage Trophy Hunter 300 Win Mag shooting 180 grain

Does this change any other thoughts / recommendations when you see it like this?
Thanks again guys!

I'm at a little bit of a loss. What exactly are you looking for?

I'm in a position at this point in my life where I have a few rifles (more than a dozen) and I have rifles in calibers from .22-250 through .300RUM. I hunt coyotes to elk but mostly I hunt whitetails and mule deer. I have taken deer with .24 caliber rifles to .50 caliber muzzleloaders. My 7mm08 or my .270 WSM are both likely the best deer calibers that I have and yet whenever I head out hunting, I almost always grab one of my .300 Win Mags. Possibly it is because I have a couple of .300's that are true 1/2" MOA rifles and I have extreme confidence in being able to hit what I point at or maybe it is because when ever I shoot a deer with one of them, there has been no blood trailing needed because the deer just fold up into a pile right there. So while I have a bunch of calibers/rifles/handguns to choose from, I tend to fall back on the .300 Win Mag because I have such an incredible track record with that caliber. Now with that said..... I am right now putting together a new rifle build in my mind for a 6.5 PRC that I really "NEED" to fill a gap in my rifle battery.
Good luck.

Elkguide - at this point I’m trying to dedicate rifles to specific game rather than the 300 win for all of them. I have them, so I might as welll use them. So right now the 300 is for “elk and moose”. Trying to decide what size grain to run through my 270wsm for “deer, bear, sheep, antelope”. Obviously the 300 would kill them as well but I’m trying to make it a little more game specific rather than a catch all. Does that make sense?

If I were doing that I would load my .300 Win Mag with 210 grain Bergers and my .270 WSM with 140 grain Bergers or Hornady SST's.

I'd throw in a vote for the 270wsm. Great round and a little more versatile than the .243.
