Caliber Choice For Beginner PNW Hunter?

If you want to go off the beaten path a little in calibers, I might suggest a 350 legend. It’s got enough thump for elk, and it’s a ridiculously easy shooter. The trade off would be range.

Then again, If you’re in the super thick jungle stuff of the PNW like me, then I’ll bet you will rarely ever see a 300 yard shot.

You can sometimes find a new rifle/scope combo at a big box outdoor store, sub $500. If you're only going to 300yds, you have a large selection. I'm as well frugal, I also am skeptical of used firearms, misuse, terrible shooter from the factory, ect.. Other advice to consider, on a normal day, can you find ammo? I've seen people get the newest caliber and not be able to find ammo or it's expensive to feed.
