Here is a pic of the terrain they bedded down in. I was amazed. These big bucks live in harsh terrain. All slate rocks with patches of ankle high sage here and there. Pretty rugged country!
Wow, how far was the shot?

Thanks everyone it was a awesome hunt in tough country awesome processing the meat and reminiscing on the hunt!

Looks like X9c/A18 to me up in the whites possibility. Ya see any sheep while you were up there.

We have a winner! Richard I didn't see one sheep! I ran into sheep on all my scout trips but nothing this trip

Congrats on that hard earned buck. One of the hardest tag to fill in CA as far as the statistics go. Probably because most guys aren't willing to walk a few hundred yards across shale in their socks to seal the deal.

Thanks a lot man, and a couple hundred yards turned into close to a half mile after wind shifting three different times and needing to change approach and keep wrapping around them. I think next time I'll be bringing a couple pairs of socks my feet still hurt ha.

I forgot to congratulate you on a awesome buck in one of the toughest parts of the toughest zones in California. Also I have a question how did you deal with the logistics of water in that area? From what I know and understand water is extremely scares in that area.

Congrats. Very impressive. Extremely rugged country. Probably the highest deer country in California. That is desert sheep country for those of you that don't already know.

Thanks again for all the congrats. It really is a hard unit and asked myself many a time why I was even hunting this unit. In my scouting trips I found little seeps of water in two different basins. I packed a lot of water though 10L of water is what I had packed in with. I only used water source once.
