Friend and I are headed out for 6 days to try for a calf (only tag we have available). Wondering if any of you have any tips for calf hunting? This will be my first try for moose. I've concentrated on an area that looks like it would be a good food source and provide cover for cow/calf.
We should be far off the beaten path so hunting pressure should be minimal.
any info is appreciated.

Not sure if you have left yet or not but good luck. I have taken 3 calves and missed one. My family have taken many over the years but it is hard.

One of my calves was taken on stand when another party pushed them out of some thick bush. The other calf was taken while still hunting logging roads. The last calf was taken after my Dad and I tracked a cow and two calves for 3/4 mile. We caught up to them in thick bush then belly crawled till we were 20 yds away from the bedded coa and calf, the other calf was up feeding. Bush was so thick we had no shot. Finally the wind shifted and they spooked and when they tried to escape they went through some shooting lanes, I took one and my Dad got one.

Overall it is all about being in an area that has moose sign and then getting a bit lucky. When i was a teenager I use to sit on stand and watch travel areas and marshes but now I like to still hunt.

Good luck
