Cabelas/Meopta Repair Options?

Earlier this fall after hunting one day I got home and dropped my 12x50 Euro HD binos on my tile floor and it broke glass inside one of the lenses. It's actually barely noticeable while glassing but it lost some edge clarity where the break is and there are little pieces of loose glass rattling around in there now. I'm done hunting for the year so I'm trying to figure out what to do with them.

Does anyone know if I have any good options to repair or replace these through Cabelas or maybe direct with Meopta? I bought these second hand years ago so my hopes aren't high but I would love to hear some of your thoughts before I contact either of these companies. Thanks!

I bought a pair of cabelas 12x50's on here a couple years ago. The eyecups wouldn't hold their position and I struggled a bit with the diopter as well. Last offseason I reached out to Meopta for repair and they were awesome. It took about 2 months and they batch the shipments over to Europe, so it can vary depending on when you hit batches. They fixed the diopter, eyecups, and replaced the armoring on the binos all free of charge. I just had to pay for shipping the binos to Florida where the Meopta US office is.

Their website does say they don't fix cabelas brand free-of-charge anymore, but that wasn't my experience. You might get charged for a full broken lens, but I'd try either way.

You need to fill out an RMA request form at this link.

Then it was Erik Muller who reached out to me and provided me updates with where my binos were in the process.

Great thanks for that info! That's really good to hear. I wasn't expecting a free repair but this gives me hope! Thanks for that link as well I'll get started on it now.

I was fully expecting a bill as well based on their website, but they never asked me for a credit card number or anything throughout the process. Maybe they would call you once the Czech facility does a full review if the repairs are more extensive, but I was a secondary owner of Cabelas brand and didn't have any issues.

I didn't really get any updates throughout the process from Erik, so I just emailed him once a month and he was always quick to respond with current status and provided tracking information once the binos were heading back to me from FL.

Filled out an RMA request and emailed Erik Muller and already got a response, unfortunately it sounds like there have been some recent changes so I'll have to wait for a response direct from Meopta. Here is what Erik just sent me.

Good afternoon,

I have forwarded your message to Meopta. As of 01 September of this year, we (Global Photonics, formerly Meopta USA) are no longer the distributor for Meopta Sports Optics in the U.S. They are handling all inquiries / orders / RMA requests directly out of the factory in Czech Republic. In the future, any inquiries for Meopta can be directed to them via email at [email protected]. Thank you,

I sent some Meopta 8x42 in not too long ago and had to deal directly with them. It was slow and a little painful and shipping there was expensive. I would hope they still service the Euros let us know! Erik was amazing when I had questions or needed things like new covers.

I had an issue with my Cabela’s Euro HD’s a couple of years ago and like was said above, Erik and Meopta were great. They were not new binos, and after some use the rubber armor was splitting open a bit and was going to be a problem. I sent them back for repair, and it was at no cost other than shipping.

Too bad we need to deal directly with now, that’s likely not going to be for the better from a service standpoint. But I’d expect Meopta to be fair with you regardless.

I had heard last week that Cameraland NY had bought out all of Meoptas US stock. They said Meopta was getting out of the North American market to focus on Europe.
Can anyone verify this?
I would be very disappointed if this were true.
I love my Meopta scopes.

I had to send in a pair of cabelas branded 15s I bought used off this forum and the bill was $600

Unhappy with the seller but was thankful meopta repaired them otherwise I'd have been stuck with a expensive paper wieght.

Repairs took awhile and the binoculars missed the sheep hunt I bought to use them on

I was told the same last week when I called and talked to CameraLand. They essentially said warranty work was a big unknown with Meopta pulling out of the US and having to deal with Meopta directly out of Czech.

About 10 years ago, I broke a similar Meopta scope. They didn't have a way to get it fixed so they gave me store credit for what I paid.
