Personally I didn't like it. It's what they used in the stormfront lite and I hated that jacket. It wetted out constantly. I also had issues with the seams but that's not really an inditment to the fabric itself. It was as also quite loud when moving in it. I personally don't wear raingear unless I absolutely have to because I bowhunt 99% of the time. So it's really gotta be coming down. If I go goretex it's a 3 layer pro shell. It's extremely durable an I've never had one fail to keep me dry. It's also heavy so take that for what it's worth as well.
And that's why I ask! Thanks guys. Rain gear is not an essential part of my kit being in AZ but I try to keep my eyes out for cheaper alternatives as it is still nice to have.
Try cabelas space rain gear top and bottom are little over a pound, packs small and you stay dry. It is noisy and not that durable but works when you need it.
Can't speak to cabelas, I use ORs paclite and like it. It is loud and not terribly durable if busting brush tore some holes in my ankles last year in scrub brush. Would have been fine if I wore gaiters.
I've had some paclite shells, and they were ok...not great. Any 2.5 layer shell without a liner is going to feel clammy inside from body heat. It's the sacrifice you make for lightweight and packable. It will keep you dry from the outside....but you will "wet out" from the inside if you are producing a lot of body heat. For low activity...they are fine. I have the Core4 Torrent rain gear, and it is also a 2.5 layer shell similar to Paclite. I like it a little better...the inside doesn't feel quite as rubbery. I had a Sitka Downpour set in Paclite, and I had to exchange the pants, because the paclite laminate started peeling on the lower legs. Sitka replaced them...but I ended up selling them.
