I got one of the cards in the mail for an invitation only cabelas employee discount night. I've gotten these a few times in the past but I've never gone. I can't really think of much I would want other than a choke tube and maybe some more goose decoys but if the price is right who knows. Anyone know what the typical discount is? or have any good suggestions for gear to check out?

The discount used to be a lot more, they have changed the employee discount structure a lot over the past few years. It's not as good as it once was. You'll get the best discount on soft goods like clothing as they have the highest margins. These days the friends and family discount will pretty much cover taxes, maybe a little more.

Like Jbra said, the discount isn't the best. Don't go in expecting fantastic deals on anything other than the Cabelas branded "instinct" stuff.

The first time I received one of those invites, I called Cabela's and asked what the discount would be. I was told it all varies depending on the product and you wouldn't know until you went to check out. As others have mentioned, it can be pretty minimal on many items. Figured if they couldn't give me an idea beforehand, I wouldn't waste my time and fuel to drive the 100 miles to the store. Still have never gone even though I get the 'invite' every year.

I am at the point were cabelas isn't even on the radar. Their prices on their non branded items suck, and now charging delivery and sales tax ...they have become a non factor for me

Their branded stuff is what you will get the biggest discounts on, especially clothing. I checked it on a gun and the posted sale was less than the employee discount price which was only like $50 off a $900 rifle that was a cabelas exclusive. Some of their branded fishing poles and such can end up being a good deal. I would maybe have them check a discount on the nice dehydrators and such and see if you might be able to get a good deal on a big grinder or dehydrator since some of those are re-branded I don't know what their margins are.
