Last evening, the California Wild Sheep Foundation, a FNAWS affiliate, held their annual dinner and it was a big success. A couple auction items went for very big money. The ‘Governor’s’ elk tag, which is good for any of California’s 3 elk species (Rocky, Roosevelt, Tule) and any unit, sold for $102,500.
The Desert Bighorn tag, which will be valid in brand new unit 12, sold for a whopping $310,000!!!
Unit 12 is one of 3 new units opening to sheep hunting for the very first time. Expectations are that some very big rams will be taken this year. The tag holder gets to begin hunting a month before anyone else and has a 3-month long season.
Next year’s dinner will be held at a new venue, the Hyatt Regency Sonoma Wine Country, on May 1
