Buying your first lightweight mountain rifle in 2025.

Currently have a Kimber Montana 6.5creed and a custom .284 lightweight sheep type rifle. If I was to do it again I would get either a Montana or mountain accent in 280 ai with a VX-5 3-15x44. I like my 6.5montana but being in bear country 6.5creed would not be my first choice

Can you go buy one off shelf?

Detach mag, flush 5 round?

Bolt throw?

Integral picatinny?

Modern ‘recoil management’ stock design?

Trigger details?

That should warm us up a bit
I am thinking hard about a 90 peak in 308. All your points are spot on. The one failing I haven’t seen brought up though is the 15x1 muzzle thread. I wish it was 5/8x24.

I was leaning hard to a Weatherby Backcountry guide in 280 ai, but stumbled into a killer deal on a Browning MCM carbon in 6.8 western. Scoped with a trijicon credo 2.5-15, and the factory picatinny rail swapped out for a trinity rail comes in at 8 lbs. Not to bad considering the scope is 24 oz and it’s on a McMillan game scout 2.

I wish I had that problem, no suppressors in the 51st state. Maybe one day, I’m sure it won’t be hard to solve for. Hurry up Trump and give our dictator the 2am bedside visit! 😉
