I’ve been interested in shooting out to longer distances both for the fun/challenge and to gain confidence for shots in the field (i.e. if I’m fully confident at 500yds under a range of conditions, then a 300 yd shot will feel casual). I recently bought one of the closeout Kestrel Sportsman from CameralandNY but my old Bushnell 1000arc isn’t cutting it. On the way to the range today I stopped to range some cattle and couldn’t get anything past ~200ish. At the range I could pickup a gong at 244yd (no further targets today) but signs out along fences in the 400-500yd range weren’t returning a value.

Does anyone have experience with the new Nitro 1800? Linked ranging/ballistics with the Kestrel is appealing, but I’d rather buy a quality rangefinder than find myself back being able to range large objects at distance but not be able to range game at rifle distances.

I‘d prefer to keep things under $400. Between the Kestrel and a new SO Brooks, I’d be hard pressed to spend $1k on a rangefinder this season.
