Do I have to burn it in seperate from the tent? Or can I just put up the tent and stove and start a fire in it?

You mean turn it upside down?I recommend that after you get a good first burn and cool down - flip the pipe over and burn again to get a good even temper over the entire length.

Check on the torch lol. Good Idea with the beer cans, any reason to drink some beer ;-)Yeah, It's my understanding that the burn-in is just to temper the pipe, not to burn off anything from the stove.
Don't get a grand idea like I had on my second stove pipe and think you'll temper the top end with an acetylene torch. There's a fine line between heating it to that nice dull red color and distorting the metal by nearly melting it.
helpful to use a second person to roll the pipe the first time, and also helpful to use a few soup/beer cans (like one where each hand contacts the pipe) to get an even roll on it the first time.
So I got the redcliff up and assembled the stove, the stove came with an 11 foot stove pipe, what a pain in the butt trying to roll it, eventually put a 2" piece of conduit in the middle of it and rolled it around, still it looks like I took a ball peen hammer to the darn thing. I saw almost all the dents came out when I got a fire going. Can I cut the pipe down? 11 feet seems way to long, like to get it down to around 9ish, if nothing for the fact that it wouldnt catch the wind near as much.
I believe one of the other members (Akicita) is using 8 ft pipe with the SXL in his Redcliff. That's giving him 2 feet above the peak of the shelter.
I'm using 9 ft pipe with the SXL in the 6-man tipi. That gives me 2 ft above the peak. Seems to work well. No burn holes so far.

Any idea if I can cut the stove pipe? Seems like I should just be able to score it and cut it to a more workable length?Yes - I am finding that 8 feet is working well for me in all weather conditions. Anything longer and you'll have problems keeping it secure in high winds.

Yes it is easy to cut, wear leather gloves and use fairly sharp scissors. I wonder how you got 11 feet ?
