If this has been asked 1,000 times previously I apologize in advance. Also, so you know your audience, this is coming from a guy who has bowhunted for along time but who has killed some animals with a rifle mixed in his career but has limited in depth knowledge of bullet construction. I’m a type A minded guy so knowing the “why” is important to me.

Often times on here I read about bullet recommendations for different animals. Can someone breakdown monolithic vs bonded vs whatever else there is and how we should choose between them for different animals in layman’s terms and maybe add in an example or two of what qualifies as each? I find it really hard to read through some of the internet garbage with the anecdotal claims and also the overly technical info with the jargon that I don’t understand completely. To be specific my questions pertain to calibers we hunt with in North America (6.5 creedmoor thru 300 of whatever variety you choose), moose/elk/deer/antelope, and finally at average hunter ranges of 50yds - 400ish.

Thanks in advance to whoever takes a minute to educate me on this.

If you are a podcast guy this is hands down the best ratio of information to effort I've ever found on the topic of how bullets work and what actually matters for effectively killing animals with a rifle...

Part 2

Bonus information (maybe a more direct answer to your question)

The podcast above contains awesome information! Also, there is a lot of terminal performance discussion in this thread as well:
