Barnes TTSX 168 gr are hammers out of my Bergara
SP. I use it for deer/hogs in AL but shoot it out to 600. I worry about whether the velocity is there for adequate expansion on game at longer ranges. I’d swap to the 130s for more speed but it likes the 168s better. Only tested it on game to 260 yards so far but nothing has taken a step. All pass throughs. They’ve all folded up where they stand.
I had a 16.5" rem 700 aac for a while then sold it to a buddy and helped him load for it. I have loaded everything from 168 elds to 125 tgks. If i had to pick a bullet for 400 max it would probably be 150 ssts or 155 scenars. You can jam a lot of powder into a case with 150 class bullets out of a 308.
If monos are your thing go light... I never tried them but don't think the mv is getting you to 400 with 130s.
Currently shooting 150 gr accubonds for mid size game...180gr NP for elk. 18" 1x10 supressed FC...just got some 137gr hammer hunters to load up so I could have another recommendation after this season.
I had a Q Fix 16” and 150 ballistic tips and 150 Accubonds shot the best of the bullets I tried. Well the 151 Absolute Hammers shot great too but I did not like them on game but they did great on paper.
I’m a big fan of mono’s, and in particular Barnes TTSX. My 18” .308 loves the 130gr., but also shoots good groups with 150’s. For factory .308 ammo, I would definitely check out Barnes TTSX.
