Building a house, is this normal ?

Thats what we are learning.
No idea how these guys stay in business.
i mean there is a reason most construction companies fail in 10 years. some figures say up to 90%

really good builders, really arent good at book keeping, scheduling.

Most good companies ive seen need two owners, one who is versed in the construction side and one who is versed in the business side.

Most “builders” including me in some ways are just middle men. They have made connections throughout the industry with everyone in the trades, and have a general understanding of the structure and timing it takes to put a house together. The general contractor is basically a glorified babysitter for the trades. In my area I know of 1 contractor who does 90% of the work himself , he does not take on new clients. Just buys land, builds a million dollar home and sells it, rinse and repeat.

And then people cant understand why when I give them schedules its always about this day. I hire people but they work for other people and their schedules are moving as well and then throw weather and material delays its all just a guess
