Build or Buy with $2000?

You're not "building" much desirable with a scope for $2000.

I tend to agree with the tikka folks. SWFA 3-9, used LRHS/LRTS, trijicon, etc plus UM or sportsmatch rings and you're pretty much at budget.

I wouldn't want a factory tikka stock for 7 PRC but i dont know what better options exist within that budget unless you put a POS scope on it. It would work fine, but we're snobs around here.

I agree, which is why I posed the question here. I had a discussion with him and advised him that you're not building anything special on that budget. I feel like you could be further ahead by buying a shelf gun and upgrading specific components for that $$$.

Hell, looking at some barrel options, action options, stock options, you could be $2000 in just those three components - nevermind the rest of the gun.

Again, just curious where you all stood with the given scenario. I think for $2k, buy a shelf gun, upgrade a couple of things, leave some cash for a good optic...

I guess if a guy wanted to feel super custom he could put something together off a savage or howa with a barrel nut barrel that would come within budget but at the end of the day it's still a savage or howa.

Hey now, whats wrong with a Howa?! I mean it's not a Savage....

Id probably buy a weatherby vanguard obsidian, lgs has them at $550, then add a really nice scope.

I bought a obsidian 25-06 and just took it to 500 yds, it does 1/2 moa with handloads. Might want more steam for Elk than a 25-06 though
