WTB Budget Rifle - CO Front Range

My good friend is looking to get his first rifle after I took him on a hunt last fall.

He's looking for an affordable rifle to take on an elk hunt this fall. I suggested to him something in the lines of Tikka/Savage/Ruger American and to go the used route. He doesn't need anything fancy. It's more important that the rifle is a relatively lightweight decent shooter in a common caliber (308 270 3006). If it's already scoped that's even better.

Let me know what you have and I can put you in touch if it's something that would work for him. He's north of Denver and probably best to do a local transfer at FFL and not have deal with shipping.

His budget is $300-600.

I agree, the Tikka is a great rifle and it would serve him well. Even if it's at the top end of his budget they hold their value. If we don't find something used in the next month will probably suggest he go that route.

I did have a Savage in 7 mag at my shop and think it is still there. It was $225 if I remember correctly, and in good to great condition. Let me know if you have interest.

I have a Remington 700 that is a very early model in 30-06 and a Colt Light Rifle in 270 that I would sell. Both are in excellent condition and accurate too.
