I am looking for some lightweight, packable, earthtone or camo rain gear.

I'd like some of the first lite or kryptek stuff, but it's not going to be in the budget this year.

The local Big 5 ad has some Hi tec jackets and bottoms, but only in black and bright blue... I was hoping for an OD green or brown.

Any ideas?

Cabelas Space Rain would work, not the most durable but it will keep you dry. Very packable.

I have a set by Red Ledge that I use. Light and easily packed. There are several available colors all to be had for around sixty bucks.

Check out the River west Vortex Rain Suite. Totally packable and you can get the set in Widowmaker Camo for 99 bucks. Here is a Link to the stuff. Definitely not for full on all day Rain showers but for quick storms this stuff will do the trick http://www.riverswest.com/weatherbeater-suit-pak-camo.html#.U5yHjihmifU We used this last year and we still got wet but only because it was an epic 100 year rain storm out here in Colorado but for quick couple hour storms this will do the trick.

The Cabelas Space Rain is tough to beat, but as stated is not that durable.

1. brain surgery
2. dentistry of any type
3. rain gear for British Columbia

Not sure if its out of your budget, but marmot precip would be my go to budget rain gear.

Agreed....you can get into Precip for less than $100 for jacket and pants if you shop around!!!

In fact going with precip pants this year!

Call camofire and ask them what they have. You can get a set (jacket/pants) for around $60...it's called Natural Gear. They have plenty of other choices as well. Camofire.com is a great company and easy to work with.

Not sure what your budget is but I bought core 4 element torrent top and bottoms off Camofire for $90 each. I shopped around a lot and for weight, performance, cost it was the best deal I found at the time. I have been very happy with them. The pants run a little long which was great for me.

X2 on the C4E Torrent, I just went with the jacket cause I've never felt like I needed rain pants. That's an option you might consider depending on where you're going to be using them. That would essentially double your budget and get you into the First Lite or Kryptek gear you're seeking. The Torrent is a great jacket and with the pit zips and soft/quiet material you can use it as a softshell if need be too. I'm sure that's a flexibility you'd have with the First Lite or Kryptek jackets as well.

Not sure if you can find the Russell APX rain gear anymore, but I bought a set for under $100 last year and have been very happy with it.

The Sportsman's warehouse in Helena was getting rid of their APX for about $75 for the jacket. I didn't look at the pants.

I saw in Scheels this last weekend they had sets of Frogg Togg raingear. The packaging said light weight and packable. $20. Don't know anything else about them other than that. Like if they hold up or how lightweight they are.

First choice for affordable hunting rain gear would be marmot precip on sale. Some places are dumping the forest green jackets and only keeping grey or blue. Most pants are black and you may be able to find grey. These pants also come in "stout" for us short stocky guys. I picked up a green jacket in May 2012 for $48 at REI. less than half price.

Next choice for cheap would be Red Ledge. I wore one of their early rain coats out until its seam tape peeled away after three years. The only thing I don't like about this jacket was that it soaked up water on the outer surface and felt like you were wearing a wet paper bag. It never leaked until the seem tape pulled off. It comes in a dark drab colors as well as one camo pattern. Might have more patterns these days. My jacket tended to take a day to dry out after getting soaked while fishing. It also tended to absorb odors. I never was able to get the fish slime and salmon roe smell out of the sleeves. Honestly though how can that kind of smell ever get washed out of anything?

I have a Frogg Togg flyfishing wader jacket. I love the pockets, and have worn it for work, hunting and fishing. It makes a lot of noise, and is not nearly as packable as true synthetic jackets are. It does pill up with wear and the outer surface can become water saturated and take days to dry out. I really like this coat for general use, but not for backpacking since it takes up a lot of room. And it makes a lot of noise. Walking through the brush with the hood up and you will think you need hearing protection.

Sounds like there are lots of good advice for some budget rain gear, but I just wanted to say that I also like the Core4Element rain gear for a middle of the road price range. I think the pants are too long and don't care for that aspect of it with them dragging on the ground, but otherwise decent rain gear IMO.
