1. Are you going to do anything with the bolt? Sorry, but I think Savage bolts are like a club and need to be refined some how. I have a Model 12 in a 204 that is flat deadly on prairie dogs, but the stock and bolt drive me crazy.
2. Are you going to do something to tame the stainless? I would be nervous that you are going to get a reflection problem with the stainless.
I didn't have anything planned for the bolt at all besides the knob I already did. As far as the stainless goes I was waiting to figure out my barrel fluting (or lack of) and the cerakote sometime this winter. After I get back from an upcoming Idaho deer trip I won't have a lot going for it and planned on taking it back town and doing the final fishing touches. This morning I loaded up some more 130 bergers and 62.1 of h1000 at a couple seating depths I don't have a lot of time so I loaded 10 of each and whatever groups the first three will be zeroed at 200 and taken hunting with the other 7. So far this gun shoots no problem at 600 so that will be my limit on my upcoming mule deer hunt but I would like to keep the shots under 450
Well Idaho treated us well despite heavy hunting pressure and hot weather and the 6.5 is now 5 for 5 on one short kills. This buck stumbled a couple seconds and then went rolling way down the hill I'm very happy with the performance of the 130 Berger the shot was 288 yards very steep downhill I didn't dial and held dead on and hit him just below the spine and it passed through low on the other side
Another kill for this rifle recently and some impressive damage from a 130 vld. This pig was running up a hillside across a canyon away from me and adapted to my years of hunting with the 30-06 I aimed just over fur and let it fly. The bullet entered right where I wanted but a little high and followed the spine and stopped right inside the far shoulder. 13" of spine are nowhere to be found and the sound of impact was quite impressive. Needless to say this one was drt
If anyone has been holding back from using this cartridge, gap just released its hornady headstamped brass at a decent price. Ready to load up and shoot. One piece was fired 20+ times in testing
Just a look at some of the 6.5 bullets available, from left to right : 120 Barnes ttsx, 120 hornady gmx, 130 Berger hvld, 140 hornady sst, 140 amax, 140 Berger hybrid, 143 hornady eld-x
Sin arms came through on a sweet spiral fluting and muzzle brake job on her she is now sitting right at my original target weight and any recoil should be as good as gone. I'm excited to shoot her again while it was apart I put in a lighter trigger spring and competition ground recoil lug
I have a bunch of 143 eld-bullets loaded in the new hornady brass I'll be shooting this week. I'm taking a different approach this time and I'll be bringing my loading supplies shooting with me so I can hopefully build a load and get it validated out to about 800 in one trip instead of driving back and forth
