Looking into a couple different options for my next hunting rifle. Currently running a 45 year old Ruger No. 1 chambered in 7mm Rem Mag. I shoot left handed so it’s kind of narrowed my choices. I have seen some discussion about Browning X-bolts and Tikkas

Seeing if any lefty shooters out there have recommendations?

Both are good, pick the one that has the features and fit you like. Tikka does have more aftermarket parts and are readily available. I'm a lefty too and it sure is nice that Browning is back again with LH rifles. Browning does offer cartridges Tikka doesn't offer so that's a factor too.

What cartridge. Will you keep the gun stock and use it as purchased? Or will you upgrade the gun?

I’ve gone the X bolt route. Mine are awesome and I wouldn’t sell but all the Tikka love I see on here makes me want one. They are definitely more customizable.

Lefty here. Personally, i would pass on the xbolt. Had a new model 70 that was smooth as glass but wouldn't group for shit. Theres a recent rifle review on a 7prc xbolt that wasn't great either with issues from the factory.

I run multiple zermatt origins and picked up my first tikka last year. My son has ran a tikka 223 for a few years now. They're solid and you get way more for the money with the tikka. They just plain shoot.

Where was that review? Also a model 70 is a winchester.

I have both and XBolt 30-06 and T3X tikka 6.5CM (had a 300 WSM previously). All feed and shoot well. Tikka has a much better trigger and smoother bolt, easily swappable barrels, stocks, etc. I'd get another Tikka under almost all circumstances. XBolt only has the advantage of a few additional caliber choices a better magazine (yay long COALs!) and XBolt 2 perhaps a more customizable factory stock.

Yup it sure is. FN owns both. Ever notice how their website is so sinilar?

The search bar holds the keys to your questions.

Im a lefty as well. Have had pretty much every common rifle available in lh other than rem for some reason. I have 5 or 6 tikkas and they've all been great but I just got a used xbolt in 270wsm on trade for a bow and im really liking it. Shoots very well. I put a yodave trigger spring in it for $15 and it made a huge difference. I was planning on just flipping it but I think it'll be a keeper.

Ive read Forms review of the 7prc and dont remember any issue with the rifle, I am not going to re read the whole thread. Is there another review I am not aware of?

Just because FN owns both companies doesn't really mean anything. Brownings are not known to have any chronic issues in my experience. If I am wrong about that I genuinely want to know, Im not here trying to prove you wrong.

Not a lefty but I’ve owned both the x bolt and tikka. I don’t have anything bad to say about the x bolt, I had it in 7 rem mag, it shot great! I ended up selling it and use mostly tikkas now. I like everything about them better. Better trigger, shoot just as good if not better, better aftermarket support. I’ll never not have at least a couple tikkas in the safe.

I have an X-Bolt 2 and Tikka’s. The only difference to me in choosing one over the other would be weight and aftermarket goodies. They both shoot better than I can, the Browning is less picky for me with ammo. I did get a Timney for the X-Bolt because the factory trigger wouldn’t go below 3.5 pounds.
