Browning X-bolt aftermarket stocks?

Correct. When I was on the phone with Browning, they strongly suggested having a professional do the bedding. I nodded, said sure, and had a buddy who has bedded a few rifles do this for me. I've since taken this rifle to the range--with the new stock and mcarbo trigger spring upgrade, shooting experience was quite a bit better. I'm pleased with the results, especially considering relatively low cost.

That rifle is pretty sweet! I am going down a duplicate path as you. I chose a 7mm PRC composite stalker with the SS receiver. It will take me a while to put together but like that I have 2 stock options depending on mood and condition. Do you have a total weight on that setup so i can get an idea?

To make it easier, I weighed the MAX stock and it was right at 2.6 lb on a food scale. My rig with the max stock weighs 9.5 lb but that is with a 4-16x Zeiss Conquest 4 and a 24" barrel. I attribute the slightly heavier weight to the scope and barrel length versus therealthor1's setup. Hope that helps!

For those who have done the "Max" upgrade, can you provide some clarity on the difference in weight, as opposed to the end weight, between the "stock" stock and the Max upgrade?

I have been looking for a after market stock. I have a Xbolt Speed Long Range 280AI rifle. It has a 1@8 26-inch barrel on it.

Browning's "Max" stock (vertical grip, cheek riser, etc.) can be purchased directly from their parts department for $210 (~$232 after tax and shipping). You can get black, FDE, OD green, or OVIX camo. It will need to be bedded. Found this out when I called them out of curiosity. Bought the FDE for my 25-06 stalker that I've had for 10+ years now.
I called today and was told $270 before tax. I'm just considering selling my x bolt at this point.

Did they say what color option that was for?

I'm curious--are there other factors at play that would make you consider selling the gun?

The factors are a complete lack of aftermarket supBolt.

Stockys has continually let us down with inletting for the X bolt.

That left me with the Max Stock. I was told $270 was for black or green. So over $300 and it's still a factory stock.

Mines a 7mm08. It shoots just over MOA with hand loads loaded to magazine length which is still too short. I believe 2.835 but I'd have to check my notes.

It hates the hotter powders that would make it what I want. Shot 3 to 4" groups with Staball 6.5.

I was going to just keep it since it shot good and put it in the Max Stock. But for $300, I could sell the rifle, put that $300 plus what I get for the rifle towards a Tikka, have no bolt bind, the stocks that I want and unlimited magazine length.

Long story short. It's a great rifle, probably the best factory option outside of a Tikka in that price range, but there is no support.

I would think they might have a different mag that would allow longer COAL? Creedmoor mags maybe? My wsm mag is 2.9ish IIRC.

$300 seems like a solid deal for that stock IMO.

Is that Stock a quality piece? I've never handled one in person and assumed a run of the mill factory stock.

Is your wsm a short action? Browning told me no options, but I don't trust that.

Feedback seems to be that its at least stiff which is my only complaint with the factory sporter plastic stocks. Form factor seems nice. $300 doesn't get a guy much these days.

Yes. The fact that they have a different creedmoor mag rather than using the 243/7-08/308 magazine for the creedmoors makes me think they might be a little longer. I forgot about this until just now but the thing i'd be cautious of is the browning mags have shoulders and the creed shoulder is further back so a '08 case might not fit in that regard. I ordered a 6.8W xbolt mag for my 300wsm due to longer COAL and it didn't work because the shoulders from 6.8 are shorter than the wsm. maybe that's why they told you there isn't a different option? The 6.5 PRC mags are 2.95" and might work for a 7/08? PRC isn't as fat as SAUM/WSM/6.8W.

7mm-08 Hells canyon speed. shoots 150 core lokt great. I too would like to see a CF stock for them. The plastic mag is kind of weenie. It sure would be nice to have a rigid stock for it.

Do they sell the pro carbon stock for them as components? They did not when that model was first introduced and I inquired.

That's a bummer that they upped the price.

The lack of aftermarket support is unfortunate. I went through the same exercise looking for options for mine. My 25-06 was my first rifle, so kicking it down the road isn't an option and I wanted an upgrade, so Max stock was it.

I tried Ramshot Grand in the 25-06 with 110's and it could not handle it. Freaky fast, terrible groups. Conversely, has historically shot H4831SC very well and I just worked up a Varget load with 70 gr BlitzKings and it shoots great @ 3788 fps. I don't know what to make of this aside from that the rifle is picky.

All that said, I like my x-bolts and won't be selling them, but I tinker around with stuff too much nowadays to buy another.
