It’s a little frustrating. My body is highlighting the shiny new piece of equipment. Kinda weird feeling.

I had foot surgery about 2 1/2 years ago. A few things I wasn't expecting. How badly my calf atrophied after only two months of not walking, feeling the metal plate in my foot and how long my foot would swell after activities. Even to this day my foot still swells a little when I really push myself. It's not a big deal but I thought that would have stopped after a couple months. The biggest annoyance is the metal plate. I think you will always feel that. I don't notice mine all the time, just wearing certain shoes or when hiking uneven terrain. Also not a big deal. I looked at the whole thing as a challenge to see how quick I could recover. I had never been through anything like that. The only thing I found difficult was asking others for help doing menial tasks. That part was humbling. It really made me think of all the people in the military who have lost limbs and how insignificant my problem was compared to them. I think you'll be hunting in no time.

I think so too but like you I have thought about others in much worse situations. Bound to a wheel chair or prosthetic legs. It is very humbling. I never ask for help and always try to do it by myself. I have learned who my real friends are though

Don’t push it too hard, especially early on, but don’t get lazy either. It’s that fine line of doing just enough but not too much.

Knowing you, being lazy won’t be an issue.

You are going to recover well. You’ll be sprinting across the Humps before you know it.

All else fails you and Kyle can hunt together…

Sadly we still ain’t found Kyle lol. I will definitely be at our archery hunt. May be a little slower than normal but I’ll be there.

Cripple rig engaged. I had to take a couple days. Day 3&4 after surgery was a major suck fest

Good luck! I’m in western NC as well, September can’t get here soon enough!
Tell me about it. I broke down and bought an e-bike so I can insure I can hunt this year. Now that 750w and under is legal

A man’s got to do what a man’s got to do! It will be a cool story one day when it happens, but don’t over do it! I’ve had 2 ACL reconstructions in my 7 knee surgeries (Wrestling and Football) you can set yourself back real quick if you’re not careful. I totally understand the itch though!

I won’t over do it but I think this is the Lords way of slowing me down a bit too. I’m a bit of a bull in a china shop kinda guy

So I’m learning when taking this one leg out of the equation I can not shoot as tight if groups as I normally can. It’s really frustrating. I can still put 6 arrows in a 3.5” circle but there is no stacking them. This may prove beneficial learning for weird shots. Even sitting I can brace with both legs or sitting flat on the ground. I can still use my legs to hold but man. One leg as me all kinds of shaky.

Well ol doc put the reins on my plans. I’ll be pretty limited this year. I really didn’t realize how bad it was. Soooo. Ol big boy will get a break this year. Luckily my wife understands my love of hunting and our state has changed ebike rules. Soooo. I’ll use a bike this year and sound like the next. In 10”-12” heavy leather boots from now on

Thought I would update. I’m walking again and actually did 2.7 miles on a easier terrain trip. I will be chasing my big deer by December. I’m actually packing in for our weekend opener archery hunt. I have lost some range of motion but I’m still going. It will change my style some but not stop.

Full out release today back to normal activity. Just in time. I’m still slow and a touch of a limp but my doc said outdoor activity would strengthen it faster than therapy could. Just use my own judgment

Well. I’ve had to accept I’m not going to be capable of some activities for a lot longer than I’ve thought. Changed my style of hunting tremendously. Clearing out allot of unneeded gear that I won’t need for several years but headed to Kentucky this week. Good friend of mine has been helping me. Actually was able to hang my first stand of the year last week. So we will see how it goes. I’m now a for a few years a treestand hunter lol.

Hey, it could be worse than having to settle for tree stand hunting. Glad to see you’re able to still get after it. Good luck this season.

Believe it or not. I’m actually enjoying it. It’s different but staying closer has forced me to focus on really picking apart an area. Checking multiple cameras in one spot is like Christmas. I’m only bow hunting though. It’s going to be fun.

Your a young guy still. Do what you need to do to get fully healed and rehab. You have many more seasons ahead and you will enjoy them more if you are in good health.

I’ve learned or been forced to slow down. It’s actually been good for me. I wound up right before hand now. I’m forced to slow down walk slower take longer. Find more sign. Notice more subtle sign too.
