You guys out there chasing the Gray Ghosts...what is your head? I prefer a good expandable on Mule Deer because our shots out west are typically a little longer than back East in the heavy wooded timber.

My Choice:

G5 -- T3
Trophy Taker -- ULMER EDGE
Trophy Ridge -- Steelhead XL

Those are my heads to choose from personally.

I'd like I try the Trophy Taker Ulmer Edge but can't in Idaho... So for me it'll be the same I use for everyrthing. Either the Trophy Taker terminal-t or shuttle-t. Leaning towards the shuttle tho...

T3 for its low profile in the wind as im hunting them on the priarie again this year. Ill probably have a few shuttle T's in the quiver as well.

I'm in Idaho, too, so no expandables, so I'm shooting the 100 grain Rocket Nitro by Nap. Killed 2 bucks with it. Tunes easy.

Have never tried an expandable, like a good fixed blade for Mule deer. I have shot them with mostly Magnus heads.
Currently use Magnus Buzzcuts and VPA's.

I really like the looks of the Ulmerhead but untill they come out with a 2'' cut I will probably stick with the rage. I know, Hate on, But they are flat out lethal. Just wish the would step up their QC.

I wasn't aware that RAGE had a QC department!!! jk I think that they have made some necessary improvements over the past 2 years but I have been burned by them in the past and I have 0 faith in them now personally. I am assuming that you are using a 2 blade 2"...same head on elk??

Both. Been running those steelheads for a very long time. I still have some old ones in the box along with the new XL ones. I don't think I've killed anything yet with an XL. I think they just take quiver rides.

Can't tell ya how many deer and elk those steelheads have blown through. Love the super short head, flies really accurate.

Evan,

Unfortunately I didn't take any pics of the entry/exit due to running low on light and needing to make quick work of him. You can see the size of the hole on the entry in a few of these pics. If I remember right, you could've easily fit a golf ball in the entry hole!

If I was to shoot my compound this year I'd like to try the Ulmer Edge. Interesting head! Gonna go with either a Muzzy Phantom or a Woodsmen Elite outta my recurve this year.
