Sorry if this has been beat to death already. I tried the search function but come up empty.

I am new to bear hunting. I will be hunting this spring in Canada with my bow over bait. I have heard how bears don't leave much of a blood trail so I am thinking hard on broadhead choices. I will be shooting a 450 grain arrow just shy of 300fps. I currently have a mix of qad exodus, shwacker 261s, and g5 megameats.

Others that have my interest are grim reaper carni-fours, and evolution outdoors jackle.

Does anyone have any input on any of these? Am I over thinking it?

Thanks for any help

you are over thinking it. Just wait for a broadside, put your arrow through both lungs and they won't go far.

Yes, bears hair can soak up blood and make for less of a trail, especially when hit higher in the vitals but they still leave a trail. Look for blood about knee level/thigh high on brush/trees as well as on the ground, and listen for the moan.

On a side note. Not sure if you've hunted allot of bears or not but I think where most guys get into trouble (with rifle or bow) is shooting to far fwd and too low (in the area you'd expect a heart shot on a deer). Put your arrow a few inched forward on mid/mid on the body and you are good.

Good luck on your hunt!!!!
