I have a 2021 GMC Acadia AT4. There was grinding sounded like coming from brakes. Went to change rotors and brakes. Both look like they are in great condition. Rear brake calipers won’t fully decompress. Any suggestions, or should I just change them?

electric parking brake on those things? I want to say you gotta plug into the computer to get em to relax.

Sure you dont just have some junk caught between the rotor and the dust shield?

Both sides or just one side? Could also be a blockage in the brake line essentially acting as a check valve only allowing fluid to travel to the caliper and not return to the master cylinder, sometimes the inside lining of the break lines can delaminate and cause this. Loosen the bleeder valve on the caliper to relieve the pressure and see if it will relax.

Some pistons need to be screwed back in as well, I’m not up on if those trucks are that way. Bad news is, if they need to be screwed in, then yes, you now need new calipers.

This could be stupid simple, but clean and lubricate the caliper pins with the appropiate lube. This is a commonly overlooked step when doing brake jobs.

The pins won't have anything to do with the pistons not going back in, they just allow the caliper to float on the bracket

Probably takes that special break tool that turns the piston as it compresses it Pretty common on imports..local auto parts store should loan you one.

Well what I thought was going to be a simple morning project and I’d get a bunch of other stuff done today ended up being a fiasco. In my brilliance I hit the electronic park brake button when the pads were out and the thing went all the way out. I cant get it back in. Of course no stores had any on hand close by. So I will be waiting for the new ones to come in tomorrow. Always learn something new here at rokslide!

The vehicle has 40k miles on it and was grinding and squeaking when stopping like worn pads and rotors. When I was replacing them they all looked dang near new. Hopefully this fixes that. 🤞🤞
