ya you must have forgotten the median level lowlife in commercial fishing . It’s only worse in sport fishing … remember when a whole crew OD’d on fentanyl?
I know that side of commercial and sportfishing exists but I've been around long enough and fished with enough guys in the industry that I know who to go with. Most of the captains I currently fish with, I know them personally. We know each other's kids. I've dealt with enough drunk and high captains and deckhands that I have to fish with a boat 2x before I'll bring my family with me just to get a feel for the way the boat is run. If you ask a good captain about a new boat and he says don't bring your kid on there, trust them. Sometimes it isn't the boat or the crew but the clientele the boat has. Sometimes an extra $100 on the ticket price (for the same length trip) will save you thousands in hassle.

A couple of the 10 or so Rio Grande Cutthroats I caught out of a tiny stream. The end of a 4-year-long mystery! Four years ago, I stopped extremely briefly to fish this stream (About 5-feet across at its widest) heading home from a different stream. A huge storm was blowing in so I knew I needed to be quick. I had one cast, I hooked a fish and it came off so I never knew what species was in this creek and I thought about that stream a lot over the years. Anyway, last weekend I made it back up there and to my surprise it was full of cutthroats! Extra surprising because there is zero info about this stream anywhere online, in old cutthroat population surveys, nothing. Glad to find so many healthy cutthroats in a stream not yet touched by non-natives!
