Going to Banff at the very end of August. Never been there before and interested in doing a float fishing trip on the Bow River anywhere between Calgary and Banff. Does anyone have any guide recommendations? I know late summer can be tough. Thanks in advance.

Hey - any luck finding something? I'm going to be there with my wife in mid-August and was similarly hoping for a day trip like you described. Trying to avoid one of the big tourist companies.

I’ve booked with Fish Tales out of Calgary for the end of August. I’ve come to find out that the fishing on the Bow up near Banff, or even Canmore, isn’t that great due to nutrients in the water. Supposedly the best fishing is around Calgary and then further downstream out on the plains.

Thanks for the info. I stumbled across the same about the lower fish numbers and quality in the upper Bow near Banff. Considering convenience / scenery for my wife that will be along for the ride, I might just accept the lower quality fishing and find something there.

Have a great trip and tight lines!

I listened to a podcast recently where a bow river guide says he basically begs and pleads for the customers to not insist on fishing the upper bow. Tells em that it’s basically an expensive sightseeing float with some lines in the water and basically makes the client put in writing that they understand there is almost no chance of catching fish. Even so, some clients still want to go and….they do not catch fish.
