Widow Jane Decadence is pretty mediocre. So is the Barrell Vantage.

barrel seagrass - start with the cheapest one green label. If you like it you will like the grey and gold labels.

That green label is very good. Of the ryes I’ve tried, I think this and Angels Envy are my favorites so far for sipping neat.

For an everyday drink it’s really hard to beat wellers green label and basil hayden in my opinion. Both are smooth and inexpensive

You may not be a wheater fan. I have had many and some of the "best" ones. I have generally learned to pass on wheats. I also dont love high rye bourbons (30%) rye in a corn mashbill. I love corn, I love high ryes 95/5. I dont like them mixed. AKA remus special reserve. Start tracking mashbills and you will get ahead sooner.

I came back around to this Whistlepig wheater tonight and actually really enjoyed it. I’m starting to wonder if I need to open bottles up and let them sit for a week before I try them. And apparently neat at room temp is the only way to drink them.

The WJ Decadence didn’t get any better though.

I might be a high rye fan…I like every variety of Bulleit that I’ve tried anyway.

They (the bourbon influncers) say that a bottle will change sometimes at 0.75 - 0.5 - 0.25. I havent so much experienced that. I have experienced really liking the first glass and not liking the third. Same in reverse.

Penelope Rio and tojaki were 2 that I really liked the 1st glass then by the 3rd they were almost un drinkable.

Also another guy coming into camp is owner of a winery in Healdsburg and bringing some wine so once I dump an elk we’ll be dining and drinking like kings!

If you are a rye drinker, I highly recommend Smooth Ambler's Old Scout Single Barrel Rye. Very solid pour.

Best bourbon! unfortunately it’s been discontinued. You can still find online for 90.00.
