I see a lot of talk here about lightening rifles like the Tikka T3 Lite by putting an ultra lite stock like a McMillan Edge on it, but if you do that with the idea of shaving off 4 or 5 .oz, don't you then add a couple .oz plus maybe a couple hundred more dollars on new bottom metal? I never see bottom metal discussed here, & I feel like Im missing something.

You can use the OEM bottom metal with a after market stock....

I have been looking into bottom metal lately. From what I can tell, everything that you can put on a Tikka still results in usable mag length of 3.5 or less. I have been wanting to build up my Tikka 30-06 to shoot the 215 Berger's, or maybe the 200.20x if I can find some. The issue is with the 215s the COAL won't work in any of the current magazine/bottom metals combos.

It looks like mountain tactical is close to releasing a standard long action bottom metal for Tikka where you can use the AIC mag and have room for 3.6+ COAL... We will see.....

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think the tikkas will feed longer COAL rounds even with longer mags.

You are correct, but I guess the bottom metal from mountain tactical will solve the issue, or at least that is my understanding....

I feel kinda dumb for asking the question now that Ive done a little research. I thought my bottom metal was one piece with the stock like the new kimber hunter. Oh well.

It's all good. Not a single person on this site knows everything. We all continue to learn. I didn't know what bottom metal was at one point. I continue to learn a great deal about rifles, reloading etc on this site.
