You might want to do some research on chigger bite prevention. I have had some buddies that have had their trips nearly ruined by the chiggers. I don't have any first hand experience because at the mere mention of rattle snakes I crawled up on my desk and started whimpering like a little girl.

Just spray your clothes with Permethrin, or go old school and fill a sock with sulfur and smack it against your clothes.

X2, forgot to mention that.. Get the Earth scented refills too..

Really only works when you sit still though, if your stalking just keep it in your pack..

Lived here all my life and never used snake boots and as long as you are in the center of the state or in west Texas mosquitos shouldn't be an issue either...too dry. Ankle support is an issue though because of all the limestone rocks everywhere. Any quality hunting boot will do.

Prickly pear spines in your ankles sux, especially after dark.

As far as thermocell that's regional. East TX, your screwed with out one before Xmas. Actually any where east of 35. Hunt the coast and coastal plains with out one your screwed spring through late fall.

high plains your good with out one, west Texas your good with out one, south Texas as long as your inland your good with out, hill country just depends on seasonal rain fall.
