I am looking for some opinions on my boot/foot issues. No matter what boot I've tried I end up with blisters on my heels. More so on my right heel compared to my left. But still get them on my left heel. I've tried Crispi summits,Thors, Nevadas, schnee timberlines and kenetrek mountain extremes. all give me blisters on heal. The kenetreks I just bought I have 5 miles on them the kenetreks feel good besides the heal slip and blisters. I wear liner sock with Darn tough socks. Im outta ideas on what to do since all the boots have gave me blister. Any advice or opinions would be great.

Thanks

Also, are your boots sized correctly? And what I mean by that is go get professionally measured by someone that actually knows how to measure not only your length but also your arch length. Arch length is probably more important than overall length as it more determines the flex point of your foot, and your foot’s flex point needs to align with the boots flex point, as if they are too far off you might get heel slip and thus blisters…

And all those boots you listed (except for the Timberlines) are pretty stiff, so getting the fit just right is extremely important.

Do you have heel blister issues in more flexible boots like say a Crispi Lapponia, Lowa Renegade, or a Salomon Quest?

I had issues too and found some moleskin over the heel helped a bit. Mind you, I was already sore when I put it on, haven’t used it prior to hiking yet, which I’m sure would help. I only wear darn toughs without liners and I found when I switched to the darn tough socks I slipped less

I haven't tried any more flexible boots. From what I know they are the right size as the size up is sloppy and size down have been uncomfortable tight. But I haven't had my feet measured by a professional.

I guess I've just been worried about a flexible boot in steep terrain that's mainly why I haven't tried a flexible boot.

Have you tried inserts? I put some superfeet insoles in my boots... they have a pretty deep heel cup and higher arch, and those seem to help keep my heel in place.

Also, be sure to lace the boot tight around your shin. I leave the laces relatively loose over my foot, then much tighter above the ankle.

Agree with most of what’s been said. Leuckotape P (the version matters) worked great for me on my previous pair of boots. However, it isn’t enough to save me with my new pair. Maybe if I used more tape I could get there, but it still feels like it’s ripping my skin. No blister usually but far from comfortable. I’ve also had pretty good luck with wrapping my laces around the back of the upper ankle and tying it down in front. Sorta like what you do with the really long hockey skate laces so that you don’t have a ton of lose lace everywhere. I’d typically lace it normally up to the crease of the foot and ankle, maybe one more lace hook, then lace it behind the leg and not lace any higher. That made a big comfort difference for me.

Last suggestion would be one of these off amazon. It’s meant for hockey skates I believe, but it works on a boot too. I’ve really enjoyed these so far with no blisters but haven’t really put them to the test yet.

I just saw this and I thought I would leave a message. Blisters on the heels are developed from many things not just a heel moving in the boot. In a lot of cases that we see the problem is the wrong boot, the wrong size sometimes a combination of several things. Looking at all aspects of the foot often times needs to be taken into consideration to eliminate the problem as much as possible, but if done its a dang good thing!!!

I'm going to send you a message so if you feel like discussing this more we can dig into it a little more. Thanks!!!

Check out the heel lock boot lacing technique to minimize slipping.
Not it hijack this thread but I am experiencing heel slipping on my new pair of crispi briksdale MTN SF. It happens more the longer I’m in the boot I’m guessing from sweat buildup. And it’s more going up hill. I’m going to try some different boot lacing techniques and see if this solves the problem. Thanks for this suggestion.

I’m thinking the stiffer sole is part of the problem. Normally I can wear a lowa evo or Tibet or even a meindl and I don’t experience any slipping.

A little proactive Leukotape goes a long ways. Even with perfect fitting boots, I will tape my feet prior to hiking.

Sounds like you're tried different boots, but for me, fit is everything. If you try on boots and you're getting heel lift, it won't ever get any better. Try more boots and see if you can find one that locks your heel in place. Of the boots you listed, I also got heel lift on the Schnees and Kenetreks, but have found lots of boots that I don't get any lift on.

my crispi's used to beat my heels up pretty good.

i switched to the superfeet trailblazer insert (now called hike) and instantly it felt better and zero rubbing or sore spots. I walked over 30 miles in 3 days a few times now and not one hot spot.

Had the same problem until I researched lacing styles for hiking boots and changed the whole game. Always had raw heels and carried mole skin and leukotape for when hot spots started. Used to be the liner sock and wool sock guy until I researched lacing methods. No liner socks since and wear Darn toughs only and haven't had a blister since changing lacing styles. Look at the different lacing styles and will help for sure.

I’ll check those out. I have the green superfeet I’m not sure if they even make the ones I have anymore.

I’ll definitely look into the different lacing methods.

i have heel rub issues with most rubber boots. the double layer Wrightsocks have helped alot. with lace boots ive tried looping or skipping back down lower 2 or 3 hole hooks to get the tension better for less heel slip.
