boonie hat for hot weather

I drew a Nevada archery deer tag and it will be weather that would make the devil sweat! I've had enough hunks of flesh cut off me already. I need a broad brimmed hat for sun protection but now so broad brimmed that it will interfere with my bow string. I tried the Kuiu on and found it too hot and not very breathable. Is there something similar out there that is more breathable?

Just pour water on your boonie. If the material is too thin or made of mesh, there is little to no insulation properties to prevent your head from baking in the sun.

I almost always have a boonie in my pack especially when glassing is the name of the game. I just use a cotton Kryptek boonie. When it is too hot, which does happen on a rare occasion in souther AZ, I'll pour a wee bit of water on it and it does wonders.

This is what I used in Colorado this archery season as well as while training in Missouri humid summer weather. It did excellent with ventilation and sun protection a does not interfere with bow strings.

Personally I don't like cotton as they will stink like hell after I sweat in them.

Have been a bookie fan for a long time. Owned a dozen or more, including some I had made for my giant, fat head. I haven’t found one I like to wear while shooting a bow. I have gotten into the habit of just pushing it back on my head when I shoot.

I can’t use the hunting brands due to head size. I like the OR versions and own one in brown and multicam. My favorite by far are from a company called Sunday afternoons. They have several variants but I like the Bonnie, adventure and their caped hat.

It’s gotta wide brim and the brim is slightly longer in the back. Cool on a hot day, works ok in wind and protects my neck and ears well. Like you, I’ve had enough flesh chopped off...
