I was looking at a place near paradise, the band of rams in the back yard when I was checking the shop out made it not even seem real, the place went into a bidding war and I tapped out at 650. Crazy market, here in Wi, that would’ve been 600 tops.

For sure. My middle daughter bought a house in Parma and commutes to Micron every day. The youngest still lives at home and is a ways off before she can start looking for a place of her own.

the Boise instagram realtors are vermin. essentially trolls.

I am starting to feel about Boise the way Hemingway felt about Paris - wistful for the old days and times that will never return.

Ada county has the stench of exploitation that will not rub off with a good rain, and it is very sad to see, having seen other towns elsewhere suffer the same fate.

What I don't understand is the average home in Boise is $500-600k while the average income is $80k, How are people doing it?

Almost half my remodeling clients in Boise back 12 years ago were either telecommuting, or were executives that worked out of town. Having an airport with inexpensive flights gives executives a reason to work out of town. Now the number of remote workers has gone way up even more since Covid, and many of those new businesses moving into the area are bringing their highest paid executives from other areas. Don’t even get me started on how well off retired Californians who sold a little $2M house back home and now have pockets full of cash have peppered the west. In Reno a friend of mine buys houses to flip and all his flips are designed for Californians, remodeled above what they will appraise for and are all bought with out of state full cash offers.

Yeah agreed, if you want to work hard, the trades are a no brainer. A good plumber or electrician or whatever can make very good money and there is so much work it's ridiculous.

Tangential to this, my retired buddy in Eagle just went looking for a high end SUV for his wife. He says Escalade's are sold out....can't even find one to test drive. They were looking at Range Rover- Yuk- and ended up with the big Mercedes and had to wait a couple weeks for it.

Point is, there is a lot of big money sloshing around in that area.....

Yep. Girlfriend was an ER nurse and had to take a job a few states away just to survive owning a house here.

I've been looking around for a winter job. Sportsman's and Cabela's pay 11-13 bucks an hour. Armed car job was 13.75. So far the best bet for an entry level job seems to be Chic Fil A at 15 bucks an hour. If I went through getting my paramedic license active again it would still be around 25/hr.

I'm assuming she looked into St. Luke's and St. Alphonsus? My wife works at St. Luke's part time as a CNA. They pay pretty well, and the incentive shift wage bumps are pretty good.

I'm a civil engineer and have been told directly that ESI will hire laborers with zero experience with opportunity for quick advancement for hard workers.

My parent's home in boise has more than doubled in "value" in the past 8 years, closer to 8-9% per year which is nuts. 5 bed 3k sq foot, purchased on a government salary. Happy for them but this market is difficult for first time buyers.

She worked at Luke's. It was barely enough to buy a house, and she was "house broke" all the time.

I shot out an app to ESI last year and haven't heard back. I'm going to look into them again, thanks.

We need a separate tax system for those in the state for 10 years or less
