I will be up in the general Boise area in couple weeks. Will be in and around Boise, Star, Middleton, Caldwell etc.. Any can't miss spots i.e. restaurants, breweries, sites that me and the wife should visit? Thanks for any info.

Payette Brewing, Western Collective Brewery, Edge, Powderhaus. All have great beer. If you are going to be around for a couple of days, book a rafting trip with one of the companies on the Payette River.

Used to spend a fair amount of time downtown Boise. I am a big fan of 10 Barrel Brewing and really like the food at Bittercreek Ale House. I think it's their pork sandwich that's dynamite. Was a couple of other small bars that were kinda cool, one German bar I liked.

I have a friend from there. He said it's a good place to be FROM.
I live about 35 miles north of Boise but drive in every morning for work. I lived downtown in ‘96 through ‘98 . That was a hoot for a fella fresh out of the sticks! I left my hometown of 800 people in 96 and have been trying to figure out how to get back since I left.

That depends on a great deal. I’ve lived in Seattle, Washington DC, the sticks of Virginia, suburbs of Va, the coast of North Carolina, Utah, but live west of Boise now. It’s not the same place it was when I first moved here 20+ years ago (no place is), but it’s still damn good. And that is what’s causing it to be not good for a lot of generational locals. It has the unenviable status of being better than most but not as good as it used to be.

I like all that stuff. I'll be with the wife and its a fairly short trip so maybe a nice morning hike would be good. Any suggestions?
If you are near downtown Boise, find 8th street and drive north toward the mountains - it turns to dirt a little ways up the foothill but all of the Parking areas should provide a nice loop with a view. If you aren’t downtown Boise, then find a parking spot near the path along the Boise River “Greenbelt” and enjoy the river. Bardenay Restaurant in Eagle is an option to eat and take a walk along the river. If you happen to be bringing a bow and want to take a short drive East out of Boise, you could try the public 3D archery range: https://idfg.idaho.gov/press/new-archery-range-opens-boise-foothills-fgs-boise-river-wma
