I kind of went about it backwards, but just the way it happened, and wanted to share my results. I drew my first Illinois bobcat permit and have been making a pretty good effort at it the last 6 weeks. I’d been carrying my .17hmr most the time to try and avoid pelt damage. I happen to call in a pair of coyotes with my daughter one morning and connected on one. It was an 80 yard broadside shot, and actually exited. It went through both lungs. The coyote ran about another 80 and piled up. I was shooting cci a17 17gr tipped.
Couple weeks later I finally got a bobcat called in and shot it with a 22-250 50gr vmax. It was a 70 yard quartering to shot. I hit it on the front right shoulder and the bullet never existed and a very small entry.
Probably would have been better to flip them around but worked out.
