I was wanting to buy the Sitka Jetstream insulated beanie for my 4th season CO elk hunt this year because I don't like my head being cold, However, I just saw the Kuiu Peloton 240 beanie. What's the better choice as they both claim water and wind resistance? Sitka beanie is much more expensive unless I buy the 330 merino wool beanie. Thoughts and or experiences with them?

This is what I use. I have one that fits and one that fits over that for when it is really, really cold.

Depends I had a blaze orange polar tec that was great for keeping the wind off my head, I usually go beanie over ballcap, like the heavier merino ones too. Also a balaclava when it’s real cold

I guess they don't make it anymore, but the Sitka Ballistic beanie is the best thing for cold windy sitting that I've tried, it's far too warm to move in so I bring an orange ball cap or a lightweight Kuiu beanie. I have the Kenai beanie which I'd buy again if I didn't have the Ballistic, the Kenai is a solid second to it. I have the Jetstream in camo and it's nowhere near as warm as the Ballistic or Kenai, but it's also more wearable and more comfortable overall and doesn't mute my hearing as much and I can hike in it as long as I'm not putting out heavy effort in which case it'll still make me sweat too much.

I have one that I'll take with me too. If I can keep my neck warm I'll be much happier.

My current setup is the SItka lightweight beanie that I wear under my Sitka ball cap with a hood under it all. I have looked at the Sitka ballistic beanie before but couldn't take the price. I may still look around for a used one or I will look for the Kuiu beanie.

I layer a first lite tag cuff beanie with a lighter minus 33 merino beanie from amazon. No strong recommendation for either beanie but I’ve appreciated the options layering provides.

I picked up on the Kuiu orange peloton 240 beanies in that last sale and it is nice. Like Front Range FNG mentioned layering, i got it big enough to put a balaclava under it if needed, and/or also put a hood on top.

The Kuiu Kenai (i believe) that wraps under the chin like a bomber hat is nice and warm as well.
