Anybody have any experiences with this puffy coat? Looking at upgrading before heading to colorado for 3rd season. Not currently looking for recommendations, just wanting some feedback on THIS coat specifically. Thanks everyone!

I’ve had one since last season. It’s decent and does what you’d expect it to do. It’s a lightweight jacket that keeps you warm. The outer fabric is not very durable, but most down jackets aren’t. Put a shell over it and you’ll be good.

I was in the market for a new puffy jacket/pant set up for glassing. I purchased the BO puff you liked to (and their pants), the Stone Glacier Grumman jacket and pants and the Kings Camo XKG jacket and pant. I purchased them all from BlackOvis to try out. I ended up keeping the stone glacier and returning the rest.

The Blackovis material was stiffer and more 'rigid'. The down didn't have as much 'loft' as the other two options. The pants didn't have the full length zipper. Still a pretty nice setup at a good price.

The kings camo XKG was REALLY comfortable and fit really well. However, the super wide baffles were terrible. I had spots on the sleeves where all the down settled towards one side of the baffle and I had a 2" area that had zero insulation in it.

The tighter baffles of the SG and BO were MUCH better.

What made you end up keeping the SG instead of the BO? Was it just the loft or were there other reasons too?

Two things made me go with the SG over the BO. First, was the loft. The BO was not nearly as 'fluffy' as the SG. The baffles felt a lot more 'matted' and not as full. Now that doesn't necessarily translate to not being as warm, but that was my assumption. The other reason is that I am 6-7, 260lbs and the fit of the SG was just better (Really, the Kings Camo XKG fit like a dream, but their wide baffles are terrible). This is not to say that the fit for a 'normal' person wouldn't be excellent--I'm just an oddly large guy so its always challenging when it comes to clothing.

I REALLY wanted the BO to fit better because if it did, I would have kept it, despite the perceived matted down. I liked how the pants have an extra layer of fabric at the seat of the pant and on the knees and I also much preferred the price of the BO...

One other note is that I am buying these strictly for glassing and sitting around camp--not planning on doing any real 'movement' in them. So I wanted something a bit oversized with lots of length that will still keep me covered and still feel 'loose' when I am sitting on the ground, etc.

This is great feedback, thank you! I went ahead and ordered the BO and they confirmed they would take it back if I decided I hated it. So luckily I've got some time to decide for sure!

I bought the black ovis puffy jacket before my spring bear hunt this past spring. For the price, I really like it. Didn’t get into too cold temps with it but the couple times I put it on it kept me warm and it packed down pretty small. I’m sure there’s better puffy’s out there though.

I bought the BO pants. Really like them for the weight and the price. Have a SG puffy jacket that is spectacular too...
