Black Ovis describes these mittens as "Extremely lightweight and exceptionally packable, the Palisades Glassing Mitten is a must-have for colder weather hunts. These mittens offer incredible warmth without any unnecessary bulk, making them perfect for those long glassing sessions or chilly mornings around camp. "

The mittens have a nylon shell and are insulated with real 80% duck down and lined with Tricot polyester according to the black ovis website, They are suppose to be wind resistant and they fold open for finger access.

I will be using these mittens on an eastern montana mule deer hunt, where we will be spending plenty of time behind glass in some cold weather I am sure based on my previous experience out there. The interesting thing about this hunt is I will have my kids (age 13 and 10) with me as well as my wife and I plan on them using the mittens as well, so you wont be getting only my opinion, but theirs also!! and I will go ahead and say, if these mittens keep my wifes hands warm, that will be a first! So will these be up to the task? Guess we will find out!

Yes, they only offer two sizes specifically, Medium/Large and Large/Xlarge, i received a L/XL and they fit me fine, probably room for a glove liner to wear under them as well, they are mittens so they are spacious. Unless you have very large hands I think the L/XL would fit 90% of roklsiders

I have been on a quest to find warm gloves/mitts for the last couple of years. I’m like your wife ,most aren’t warm enough. The second problem is most are to small. I always opt for the XXL as XL are most often to tight. I have the OR Coldfront in XL but are to small for me. I’m really interested to see your review!

Alright just got back late last night from an Eastern Montana Mule Deer Hunt. Temperatures throughout the week averaged from low 20's in the mornings to 50's throughout the day, and of course it's the eastern plains/hills of Montana so there was 10-15 mph winds everyday as well.

I will start off showing the mittens packed in their compression sack which they come with, I like this feature as it saves space in the pack and the mittens are together right where you need them. Pretty nice little stuff sack, nothing fancy, it works etc.



As stated before I received the L/XL glove and it fits me fine, with even a lil extra room if you choose to wear a glove liner or thinner glove inside the mitten as well. These glassing mittens are warm! I used them several times throughout the trip, especially in the early mornings and late evenings (when I could pry them away from my daughter anyway...more on that in a moment). They aren't "overbulky" in my opinion either, meaning I am sure we have all at some point in time had some kind of bulky gloves that restricted your hands and fingers from moving much, and grasping anything solidly and firmly wasn't gonna work. These gloves are soft and flexible enough that gripping binos, or even your firearm was easy and no problems for me there.

A couple other notes: BlackOvis Claims on their website the gloves are wind resistant, and I found that true to form, they do fold open for finger access as well. If I do have ONE complaint about the mittens it is that they are black in color (i know personal preference) personally I would like to see them come in a shade of brown or tan, or possibly even blaze orange color.

As mentioned I mentioned before, my daughter pretty much stole these gloves from me after the first morning, I let my wife and my daughter try these out first morning while we were glassing a coulee, just to get some different opinions for you all. Both of them said they were "super warm" and when I wanted to use them pretty much any of the rest of the trip, I had to pry them away from my daughter. The L/XL fit my wife's hands fine with room for glove underneath, and my daughter seemed to have no problem wearing them as well, even though they were slightly to big for her hands. My son liked them but they were way to big for his 10 year old hands for him to really use them.

I will report back with further reviews of these throughout the Virginia Whitetail deer season, I want to see how they hold up to near Zero or below temperatures (if we get any) while I am glassing and/or just sitting in the cold while hunting. I will keep you guys updated.

They sure are, I would much prefer those, might have to do the same and give the black ones to my daughter lol

I took a pair on my wyoming elk hunt. Temperatures were in the 70s during the first two and then it snowed and temps dropped with highs in the 20s. It was extremely handy to have some light wieght warm gloves packed in with me. These mitts made all the difference glassing mornings and evenings.
