Black ovis/camofire going out of business?

Gonna have to look into the MF situation. I guess it doesn’t matter now but I’ve followed black Ovis for years. Bought tons of stuff. The only time I ever read or heard anything about this guy was on this forum very recently.
He has multiple convictions. During his last time in court folks questioned BO about continuing to carry his products. They ignored most folks but replied to one saying he had been posting new details in his defense. Well he lost in court still. And BO continued to support the brand and ignore people questioning it.

There is speculation of him doing work for them too but not sure it they has been verified.

How many convictions / suspensions do you think is reasonable to assume an innocent person would acquire in multiple states?
I did not say that I believe him. I said he’s convincing if you listen to his side, meaning, if you’re just following his podcast, he makes himself look pretty good.

For the record, I believe he committed crimes and is 100% guilty

He must be convincing he kept throwing sob stories and get slaps on the wrist… 🙄 but I could see if it was a one off but the lengthy history shows a pretty deliberate pattern…

But back to my question, if you boycott BO, please tell me you don’t buy from Walmart, Target, etc

I live just outside of Bentonville, AR. The home of Walmart. The Waltons, sons & grandsons of Sam Walton, founder of Walmart live here. Yes, Walmart is publicly traded, but the family is still deep in it. If you saw what they do in the area, because they have Walmart money, you would puke. Because they have money, and are the “Waltons”, rules don’t matter. If something isn’t allowed by city laws, or is not zoned for what they need, they have enough money to pay the appropriate people, and get accomplished whatever they set their mind to.

They bought up 300+ acres in the middle of town, because they wanted a home office complex, and had to outdo Amazon’s home office complex. They bought tons of houses to do this. You can’t tell me everyone left willingly. But it doesn’t matter. They have enough money to buy their way into anything. When you buy from Walmart, you’re supporting them. Same situation as MF being supported by your BO purchase.

I rarely buy gear online, I like to buy local where I can see stuff in person and have it in my hands first before putting down money.

I do and don’t get the boycot. MF is pretty convincing when defending himself on his podcast and such. But if you boycot BO, please tell me you don’t buy a single item from Walmart or Target.

He plead guilty for the ID charges, and lost hunting in UT because of trespassing there. If his lips are moving, he's lying.

Sounds like the Waltons suck. At the end of the day, we all make decisions based on how We feel about something. I am not the one to boycott, but I do understand not supporting a company that you choose not to for whatever reason you choose. Hunting is pretty important to most of us and poachers affect hunting on the whole. Not only do they take from the resource, they also bring negative light on the topic.

Obviously, if a guy decides to not buy from every place that has something that bothers him, he will have little to no stores to choose from. Choose your "boycotts" wisely. I do not think taking the approach of " If you boycott one store, you need to boycott others for various reasons" is fair.

I guess I’m not exactly following the comparison. Sounds like from your description the Waltons are exerting lots of power, which while it might be infuriating, and disgusting, it doesn’t sound illegal (as I’m sure you didn’t really mean to allege bribery - right? 😎). But MF was convicted of crimes. And not just any crimes - game violations. On RS many think illegally taking public animals is worse than taking public funds (like cheating on taxes), and some have called for the death penalty.

I’m also a hypocrite. I’m not a fan of child or slave labor, but I’m using electronics that were made in part (or with materials sourced) by one or both.

For Merino Wool base layers and undies, I would highly suggest Duckworth. 100% manufactured in the USA from Montana Sheep.

I tested some in Alaska this year. I was impressed with the high warmth and speed in which they dried in the tent after some miles in the rain and snow. Comfortable too.

You won't get them for Made in China prices, but if you like supporting American ranchers and businesses...check it out.

Buy wool from the sheep that are the primary downfall of bighorn sheep in a chunk of SW MT? I’d rather pay made in USA prices for Chinese wool.

I will be honest. I didn't even know this was a thing. I just did some research and now I'm deep into the 5 year Montana study on this.

Thanks for the heads up.
