Black Jack Bullets & 25-06

Does anyone have advice or experience with the Black Jack bullets in a 25-06?

I heard about em and just ordered out of excitement (higher BC would be the cat’s ass in 25-06)... hadn’t thought through the 10” twist on my barrel and whether that’ll be fast enough for the longer bullet.

Any advice would be very much appreciated.

Never heard of them. I love the 110 grain Accubond in my 25-06.

Had not heard of them, but I have a 25-06 and have been watching for higher BC options. But unfortunately I don't reload....

Hammer has some nice heavier bullets, but the twists they require are rare in quarter bores... when my .257wby gets a few hundred more rounds through it, maybe I'll think about a 1:8 or even faster?
.25-06 is a very underappreciated cartridge
But ti answer your question... you might have a very tough time with the blackjacks with a 1:10 twist. My weatherby doesn't like the 115 gr barnes, and they are moving.

Theyre only 131's right? Might be a little too slow for that bearing surface. I just shoot the 110 ABs and am completely satisfied for now. If i ever rebarrel i will go a bit faster and maybe give them a try. On the other hand i may just build a weatherby or a sherman to really eek out a few more fps with the heavier bullet.

Thanks for the feedback - I also emailed the company today with the same question... will let you know what they say.

I do love the Hornady 117 SSTs - they shoot really well in my rifle and have dropped around a dozen antelope and deer in their tracks. I thought of that 257 WBY before the high BC craze but never picked one up.

They'll tell you that it won't work. 10 twist is way slow, it's a major part of what has crippled the quarter bore for so long.
Cold bore Miracle on IG has used them a lot. He's had good experience with them down to 1700 fps on game

I was worried about that... jumped the gun without thinking it through. Will let you know if I hear anything different but it sounds like I may be sending them back (if they’ll take em).

Well the good news is the company was really responsive - bad news is my impulse buy was a little knuckle-headed. Maybe I’ll have to get a custom quarter bore after I shoot out my 25/06 and finish finicking with the rest of my long guns . 25 CM sounds hot!

I appreciate your enthusiasm for the 25-06 but hate to inform you the 1:10 factory twists will not even come close to stabilizing our 131 ACE. A 1:7.5” twist is recommended.

This is a ladder test just to give you an idea of load data.

I'm not sure why you would want to shoot a 131gr bullet in a 25-06 when you can move up to a 6.5 and shoot a bullet of the same weight or even a bit heavier and the B.C. is allot better?
I thought 110-117 was the sweet spot fore the 25-06? How about a higher bc 120 gr bullet? Maybe they are working on it.

Good question - Looks like a 120 grain bullet loaded with IMR 4350 gets you 49.8 grains of powder for 3,000 FPS in 25-06 (0.39 BC) compared to 44.6 grains of powder for 2,950 FPS in 6.5 CM (0.51 BC); both published max loads by Hornady.

Someone with more experience would have to say how the extra powder would play out with a heavier bullet with better BC. Maybe they’ll share something along those lines?

The 131ace has a higher BC than all 6.5 bullets, except maybe the 153 ATIP. Additionally, weighing in at 131 grains you can push them faster than 6.5's of similar BC out of the same parent case. I built a 25-284 to shoot this bullet, which will pretty much duplicate what a 25-06 would do. Should push this bullet at around 3150-3200fps and has a G7 of .345. Run the numbers, they are super impressive
