I just thought I would take a second to describe how incredible the Total Archery Challenge was this year. This was my 3rd year shooting, and this year seemed like the course builders paid special attention to detail in the shots. Many of the shots (ranging from 37 yards to 105) were through a slit in rock or through, over, or under a "y" shaped branch in a tree. Many of the targets were positioned as though the animal was bedded down and was using a nearby rock or stump to block its vitals (like animals do from time-to-time). The course was absolutely tougher than previous years, but in such a way that it seemed even more realistic to a real life hunting situation. If any of you are in or near areas where there is a Total Archery Challenge, I highly recommend checking it out. It really makes it feel like there is no offseason!

The Prime course at Texas TAC was awesome too. Sitka and MTN Ops courses (I didn't get to shoot the Muddy course) were also great, but Prime was my favorite. Prime targets averaged 61 yds from a 26 yd bobcat to a wing-and-a-prayer lob at a 160 yd bison. Except for one pretty steep uphill shot at a 45 yd ram, the angles were flat to mildly downhill, which was about all the terrain would allow. The course builders did a great job of simulating hunting scenarios, and many targets forced you to shoot over/under limbs or between tree trunks to get in the vitals.

I haven't participated, but from the videos I've watched on youtube, the TAC must be a conspiracy by arrow manufacturers to sell more arrows! So.many.broken.shafts.

If you like that, you should try the Northwest Mountain Challenge. The Pure Elevation course at Tamarack Idaho was just over 4 miles long with 1900 feet of elevation gain and back down. The first shot was a deer at 80 yards on an extreme up hill angle in front of a big rock. The last was an uphill shot at a caribou at 98 yards.

I've been wanting to shoot one of these for a while. May have to get a few buddy's together next year and make the drive.

I am definitely going to have to check that out. Is it the same time every year?

This was by far my favorite shot. It was a 60ish yard shot that you only had to sight to 37 yards due to the angle

it was just awesome! Apparently, I can’t post the picture here, but we had a shot on a mule deer (60 ish yards) that you shot for 37 yards due to the steep angle of the shot. Absolutely awesome practice for flatlanders like me!

This is an awesome shoot. We've shot the San Antonio one for several years now. My coworker's son who is 8 follow us around and picks up all of the broken arrows. His dad takes them home and cuts them down for his youth bow. This year he had 40 busted arrows off of one course.

I went for the first time this year and had a great time. Shot the prime and Sitka courses. Will be there every year in the future.
