Can you explain why it went down over $3k today?

It does seem as if BTC dumps when gold pops. Gold up 3.8% today. Both are considered a store of value but move in opposite directions.

Any idea why or just random market moves?

Still considered risk on for most. You are correct though in most cases they move opposite of each other. Rotation of funds from one asset to another.

Just BTC doing what BTC does. It's not a great investment for weak hands with a short time horizon.
