anyone have an recommendations for what to do with a bison hide or places to take it? I was thinking on doing a rug, but always open to cool ideas

I’m guessing a finished rug like a bear rug would be pretty expensive. I would look around for tanneries and just do a soft tan. A soft tan on a bison will still probably be in the hundreds of dollars if I had to guess

Moyle and mink has done a great job for me in the past. Def skin out the bison fully and keep the cape on the hide.

Flesh it , salt it and dry it, send to Moyle Mink and Tannery. They do great tanning and are about the cheapest for bison.
Keeping head on makes it more expensive to tan.
Spouse sent his in with the cape( head) off and tanned separately.
Mine has neck hairs and no cape.

I took my bison hide to J & K Taxidermy near Fargo, ND. Happy with the product but HoytHntr4 grossly under-estimates the bill when he says, "probably in the hundreds". They charged based on the square footage and it was much closer to a grand. If I got hosed, please don't tell me. I just draped the tanned hide over the back of a couch. Impressive hide & a fun memory.

In the hundreds I definitely meant upper hundreds to over a grand. My brother in law was recently shopping around to get a bison tanned and I think he told me he was quoted 800ish and another tannery was 1200
