When I was growing up in southern Wisconsin. a point big enough to hang a high on counted in total point count. Also we counted Toal points, as in 10 points vs 5x5. I always say I have ten fingers on my hands, ( I know the thumbs are not considered fingers) not 5 by5. :)

Cool for you! I like his right brow tine!
I count him as a 5x5 but my 5 year old is convinced he is a 5x6 due to the brow time.

Ive heard of white tail hunters counting total points . I can personally visualize the buck/bull better if someone describes the total points on each side which tells me if it’s symmetrical or not. I gave my son the benefit of the doubt since the one brow tine is one inch long making it a 6x5, but in the end it’s 100% in the eye of the beholder. Since I hunt for meat, the only thing I care about is that I punch a tag but a personal best in overall height and width is simply icing on the cake. Super happy with harvesting this majestic bull!

Great story, and great bull. thanks for sharing to help inspire the rest of us hunting low % OTC bull tags, and a reminder that the bulls are out there if you hunt hard.

Nice bull and a great story to go with it, thanks for sharing. How did your hunting partner make out?? Was he ever able to get the ice out of his action?
He went back to camp and got the ice out. It was his first time with me at this mountain, and unfortunately could not find me when he went back out. He ended up getting discouraged and hunted some meadows back behind camp that day. I was really hoping he was able to punch his tag, but I was the only hunter in my group of 4 that even saw an elk all week.
